  2. Oh, how very nice to see Rose again!
Kelly's hasn't been the same without her.
For one thing, Kelly's used to open on the docks and out the door you could see docks and farther out, water. Now it seems to have moved not only the door, but the location to-- in-town?

Actually, in the old Kelly's, you came in that side exit door at the bottom of the steps. There was a slight entryway, the stairs went up where they do now, the counter was right there where it is, and there was a big bowed window where the wall and juke box is now. The back, where the new door is, was a solid wall. And there, holding the coffee pot ready to warm your cup, was pretty, blue-eyed Rose Kelly, widow of Paddy, step-mother of Joe Kelly, and owner of Kelly's Diner. That guy in the loud plaid jacket leaning on the counter is Slick-- 'Whatduya know? Whatduya say?--'Jones, cabbie extrordinaire, and pal of Luke Spencer. Luke's the guy in the kitchen cooking a fry-up.

    Ah, the good old days...

  7. Rose left for Albany to be hostess to Joe who got into politics. (Joe was first a PI, then earned his law degree.) She sold the diner to Ruby, if I remember right. That is how it came to belong to Spencers. When Ruby died (the actress died), she left the place to niece and nephew Bobbie and Luke, and later Luke hired Mike to run it.

When Luke and Laura first got back to PC after their summer on the run, Rose hired Luke as cook and he spent the winter looking for an Ice Princess for the Qs and flipping burgers at Rose's. He had learned to cook in a diner when he and Laura hid out from Frank Smith's hit men in Beechers Corners.

Gh-ers leaving the show used to go to Albany a lot. Lots better than being killed off, which seemed to be the only way Guza knew how to write out a character.

  8. One thing I left out of my description of Kelly's--you could always hear the ringing of the bouys and at night the foghorns, if it was especially dark and foggy.

Imagine us getting that kind of detail these days.

  9. GREAT memory soaplover! I believe she did leave with Joe, maybe not at the same time, but they left together. YES Paddy was killed.

  10. Another confirmation that she left town to work for Joe. Never heard about either of them again as far as I know. They are probably hanging with Brian and Claudia somewhere. LOL
