Deadline: General Hospital Looks Safe!
Ah, Deadline...!! Look at this report they have up! The new production team at GH really have to be given such a great credit for this turnaround. And of course, so do we the fans who have stuck in there forever!!
Now I hear that CBS is poised to renew The Bold And The Beautiful, and ABC has no plans to cancel General Hospital (the series is on a perpetual production track and doesn’t need formal renewals if the network wants to keep it on the air)

*happydance* between this and the news about OLTL and AMC airing on hulu, this has been a good news day (well, at least when it comes to television--other things not so much ):).
ReplyDeleteYeah I heard about that. I don't believe it. ABC wants to get out of the soap opera business.
ReplyDeleteOh I believe it. ABC was never more ready and poised to pull the plug on its one last barely lobbling along sudser a yr ago. Oh but rewind to around 1977-78. Same story. Show practically pronounced dead but in comes s tiny little lady named Gloria Monty, A scrawny non leading type actor, a young teenage girl with a single appearance on Family. Fast forward to 1981 cover of Tme Magazine. Get my drift?

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have believed it a year ago but then Frons left. And then the Revolution failed so spectacularly. Katie may be leading talk shows but she still has lower ratings then any of the soaps do. And the talk show market is saturated, for example in my market Anderson Cooper actually follows GH (Katie's not on until 4!) and he wasn't renewed (though shows will air until the fall). That show was cancelled due to the decline of talk shows. I think the new powers that be at ABC (at least right now) have decided to stay with what works in the time slot. Down the road, who knows? I'll be interested to see how the online soaps go, I think there's a future in new tv mediums. And soap operas after all pioneered radio and television drama. Maybe they'll pioneer Internet drama too.
