GUZA is OUT as Headwriter of GH and Garin Wolf is IN!!

Both Soaps In Depth and Soap Opera Source are saying that headwriter Robert Guza Jr. is leaving GH after many, many moons at the show and writer Garin Wolf is in. Wolf has been on staff at GH for 15 years now and also wrote for Night Shift. While part of me is dancing in the aisles, another part is wondering what's next. Remember: All My Children got similar news of a headwriter change before getting the cancellation notice. I have been hoping for a writing change for so long now, I so hope GH can be turned around. NOW there's at least a chance!!

Script Writer: April 8, 2008 - present

Associate Head Writer: 1997 - January 3, 2008, March 17, 2008–present

Breakdown Writer: 1997–present

Head Writer: January 4, 2008 - March 14, 2008

Script Editor January 4, 2008 - March 14, 2008

General Hospital: Night Shift Script Writer July 12, 2007 - October 4, 2007

By the way, both Laura Wright and Nancy Lee Grahn seem really happy at this news!!

In other news, Robin Strasser (Dorian, OLTL) tweeted she is leaving the show before it's cancelled due to 'health issues'. Interesting, because she's been very vocal about it's being taken off air---unlike a lot of actors on the show. Hmmmm.

  2. Any idea when Garin's GH episodes will start to air?

    I'll tune back in then.

  3. Do you think they did this so the HW's going forward (Guza and old AMC writer) will not have to have a cancelled show on their resume? Does that even matter? I must admit I am a little "giddy" right now!!
    ya-hooooo!!

  4. I'm thinking I agree with Wanda. Though, I really wish Sri was taking over. And, like Mamaspat said, i'm hoping Frons is next...

  5. Oh, and did Wolf write for the first or second season of NS?

I'll be excited if it's the second. If it's the first, I have a feeling it'll end up being more of the same...

  7. If Wolf wrote the "Robert's 80s Reunion" on Night Shift, then count me in. To me, that was one of the BEST storylines I have ever seen for any viewer who watched GH during the 80s.

Um... so Karen... are we supposed to send you a "congratulations" e-card now?

  8. Oh snap, I forgot about Judgment Day, David. Guess this is all for nothing then..

  9. I am stunned! I was thinking that he would stay until the last show. I'm still thinking it will be cancelled because of Frons" smirk during all the protests. Frons looks so confident. I wish he was also leaving but this is HUGE, Karen! Now, I think I will check out storylines/episodes on you tube during the time Garin was writing to see what I can expect. I really hope the remaining shows improve.

  10. Wolf was a script writer, not head writer for Night Shift FIRST season. Sri did the Robert thing.

Nancy Lee Grahn is saying Garin loves WOMEN and wrote the Diane/Alexis friendship thing.

I think more changes are coming. JFP out? I hope it's not the beginning of the end of GH though. We need to watch.

The new impact should start to be seen in about a month? taping is 3 wks out. Who knows what Guza left though and how much they will use.

  13. GYZA THE LUZA IS GONE!

I'm guessing they're giving the hssow one last shot under new writing. If anything we'll have better stories the last year our beloved show is on.

Hope RS from OLTL is ok.

  17. I am happy that no one was around to see my raise my hands in joy and clap wildly when I read the news about Guza~

Comments about Garin on here were making me a little wary, even though my instinct wanted me to have faith. I've been watching early 2008 shows on youtube recently and while it may not have lived up to 90s GH it was sooo much more interesting and believable than it has been lately.

Stumbling across a fan blog about his time as headwriter during the writers strike has renewed my confidence again, at least a bit. http://1gloriousconundrum.blogspot.com/2008/02/garin-wolf-i-think-i-love-you.html

I am so excited~ I was honestly wondering if I just needed to stop watching again since it's been so damn boring and I don't like hanging around sinking ships, but even though I still doubt this will actually postpone the end I can't wait to see if someone new can make this show worth watching again~

  18. On another note, in the early 2008 shows I'm watching they did the whole "who hit Sam and drove away" mystery, with Carly, Monica, Liz and Nik all driving and unsure what they hit.

I'd heard about it and how similar it was to this mess of a Jake "story", but watching it has been absolutely surreal. I didn't realize when I was watching that it wasn't Guza's story. After reading all this it looks like that was actually Garin's story, right?

I always knew Jake was a rip, a bad imitation coupling of BJ/Maxie and this Sam hit and run, but to actually see how far he took his attempt to mimic the Sam story is astounding. Thank god he's gone!

  19. Thank God. Any change at this point is a good one.!!!!!!

  20. I get why everyone is so happy, but I have not watched an episode in months and I see no reason to start watching again now. It will take a miracle to save this sinking ship and I don't think Frons/ABC will give anyone the time it would truly take to save this show. I just don't think it's worth it to get myself invested again...

  21. Guza was only off the show for a year or two..early 2000's. He was there in 2008. He's been there (not counting those off) 13 freekin' years.

  22. Karen, is the new head writer the one who wrote the whole Liason/Jake s/l back in 2007/2008? Does it mean JaSam is over?

  23. Thank God that SOB Guza is out...Even if GH is dead in the water at least that bastard won't be there to turn out the lights.
