Jonathan Jackson Tweets about Becky Herbst Leaving

On twitter last night:

I'm heartbroken over the news about Becky. She is absolutely irreplaceable; an incredible actress and a phenomenal person. I'm confident the future has brilliant things in store for her! Right now, I'm just speechless and deeply disappointed. J

As you know JJ and RH basically grew up on this show together. The Boxcar, guitars, subway token... L&L2.

Ingo Rademacher also had a personal tweet to Becky's hubby, Michael saying it 'sucked'.
It seems everyone is a bit shocked about this whole thing.

In other news, Guza is  quoted in one of the soap mags that Vanessa is here until at least this summer.  I have been one to say I really didn't think she was leaving. It's interesting that he felt the need to  clarify her being on contract and not going. Guess the "ratings sucks" combined with that rumor called for him to make a statement.

  1. Thank, Karen for posting JJ's tweet. I didn't want fans to think he didn't care. It was clear to me from the tweet that he was emotional about her exit. As a matter of fact, I believe prior to this tweet he had tweeted that he would respond but was still digesting the information. (I think it was JJ, but it could have been Scott Reeves or another GH cast mate).

    Thanks for all you do!!

  2. Man, GH is so done.

I feel bad because that means a lot of people are going to be out of work.. but at the same time, they are just all standing by watching the stupidity happen.

Why didn't RH & JJ fight for LL2? That would have been better in the long run. Why does MB not try to step back? He must know that the mob saturation on this show is a huge problem! No, instead they all think about only themselves instead of a collective whole. If all of the actors stood by each other the show wouldn't be such a mess.

  3. O,

How much do you "fight" for your co-workers when/if they get fired?? It sucks that people get laid off or fired, but its just the nature of life. Would you be willing to cut your hours at work, and give them to someone else.

  4. Brian,

I actually meant fighting for the integrity of the show that you are on to be better - not just go with the flow. How is that not a good idea? If the show is successful, it will last longer. GH is going downhill fast and none of them seem to want to do anything about it. They seem content to rehash the same stories over and over - with less and less passion each time. Oh, Sonny is talking about mental illness?! Sam wants a baby?! Carly is sticking her nose where is doesn't belong?! What new and exciting stories they are telling us. If they don't give a crap about this show then why should we?

As for cutting hours at work, so people don't get laid off - guess what? Happens all the time. http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2008/oct/23/jcb-pay-cut-jobs

My company has also done it in the past and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Kinda sad that a lot of people just consider this how things are or "the nature of life". So yes, I WOULD be willing to cut my hours at work and give them to someone else, you wouldn't? I guess who cares what's going on in the world as long as we have big screen tv's to watch it on.

  5. O-

You're assuming an awful lot. First of all, what you makes you think the actors have any say at all in the creative control at GH? Do you really think Guza et al actually listen to them any more than they listen to the fans? How many of the actors have voiced their displeasure to the fans over the storylines, yet the storylines still continue. And these people have families to feed, just like the rest of us. While I am sure they have comfortable earnings, I highly doubt they can afford to risk their livelihoods. I don't think it s fair to blame the actors for the current state of GH. They do the best with the material they are given. I may hate the show right now, but I most certainly do not hate any of the actors and will not place any blame there. And by the way, I don't have a big screen tv to watch anything on...

  6. It was heartwarming seeing that message from JJ. RH was his partner in crime. They really did grow together. Watching their love story as a kid will be the best memory I take away from GH. It meant alot to me. Bringing back JJ had me so excited I would be able to see the original L&L2 together again. They created magic together. They do not do romance like that anymore on this show. I'm completely crushed on the awful firing of Becky. GH made a huge mistake. JJ is so right- she's absolutely irreplaceable. I hope fans continue to fight for Becky. Let them know just how beloved she is. We love her and want her on the show.

  7. It is such a contradiction. To save money, cut the cast. Cut the cast and weaken the show. Weaken the show, more ratings lost. More money lost. Nothing saved. Viewers more unhappy than ever and more tuning out. Ratings down, advertisers down.

When Becky came on the show the actress was 21 playing about 16 or 17, while JJ actually was a teen of about 16 or 17. Both these excellent actors continued to make the real ages irrelevant.

Will Scott Reeves go next? He no longer will have family in PC. Except his grandmother who I don't believe this actor has had even one scene with--am I right about that? And I hate to say it, but I think they will likely kill off Liz....

O, I do not at all blame the actors--they have no input (Geary used to but that was back in another day) and given that acting is one of the least stable occupations/professions there is, it would be unwise to do much protesting. Changing the show is up to head of daytime, Brian Frons, EP Jill Faren Phelps, and low on that totum pole, headwriter Guza. Guza writes the outline of the show and likely must submit it to others. Others may suggest changes, may turn down his entire idea, or encourage him to continue on this path. You notice actors always praise Guza--but then, who wouldn't they since he controls what air time they get and what direction their characters take. I've long suspected Nancy may be too outspoken for the top bosses and that passes down to air time and story.

I guess what galls is that they keep hiring newbies, while being so shortsighted with the gold they already have. And do we have to put up with tiresome Franco when he has done nothing for ratings. It seemed like good publicity, but soaps aren't like other shows. Soap fans are loyal to their shows regardless of publicity of that kind. They stay thru dreadful stuff--until the show does the unforgivable in their eyes. GH hasn't been doing the job to keep its loyal fans, and they haven't been adding new.
