Gilmore Girls and Other Binges

Oh my GILMORE GIRLS *Netflix  dropped today and I can't wait to watch!! I'm giddy!! I love Stars Hollow. I only started watching because of reruns on The WB (remember them?) when they used to air in the afternoon. I caught up around the last 2 seasons? Anyway, I haven't set time aside for my girlies just yet so NO Spoilers if you have!!

The Crown:  *Netflix Anyone watching? I am tuning in with my British Hubby and he's finding out all sorts of juicy stuff.  Awesome stuff on the inner workings of the British Gov and Royalty! Plus, it's the 50's and I'm enjoying all the props/wardrobe. Their cigarette budget alone must have cost a million bucks!

Just finished The People vs OJ. * My family hated me because I knew EVERYTHING. I watched that trial from day one. I was off work with Jack at the time and ate that stuff up.  I loved the retro-ness of it all and the performances were just perfect. Oh, their cigarette budget must have been a 1/2 a million!!
*We bought the DVD

Black Mirror *Netflix Didn't disappoint this time around. San Junipero filled me with everything. It's my 2nd fave (after S 2 White Bear) .  This was SO retro and SO my era it brought tears to my eyes. All episodes have been good this season.

Hallmark Christmas Movies *Hallmark Channel Geesh, can they GET any more white? Or repetitive? I think there's another time travel one and another fish out of water and I need a boyfriend for Christmas! They have the same actresses (Lacey Chabert, Alicia Witt and Candy Cameron in so many of them.   Our own Brooklyn Silzer is actually in "Christmas In Homestead" this year so it gave me the excuse to veg out and tune in!  Who can resist Emma?

So, that's my line up! We are going to see Allied this Sunday. My friends love those kind of movies. I don't care what we watch, I just like going to the theater now and then. I feel like I watch so much on TV that I forget that experience.

Hope your Turkey was warm and Pies were delicious!  Thanks for reading the blog.

  1. Karen, had warm turkey, many pies, and a beautiful family Thanksgiving, hope you did too!! Thanks for all of the bingeing ideas. My husband and I are fresh out of stuff to watch together, everything we try (or even stuff we used to watch together) is now awful!! Of all the ones you mentioned, he might be receptive to The Crown. Of course, we have our "his" and "hers" shows, but it looks like some of my shows are going on "winter hiatus" until Jan. 19 (and I don't have that many), so maybe I will watch The Crown without him. Of course, I watch the news and GH every day (luckily THOSE never go on winter hiatus), but then it's just Grey's Anatomy, Elementary and Once Upon a Time. I DO watch DWTS sometimes, because I love to watch people dance!

My sister and I went crazy this Black Friday (me just online, her online AND at the mall), I hope I can restrain myself this Cyber Monday! Happy shopping, everyone!!

  3. Oh that's right! Thanks for reminding me. I'll get out and hit some of the town. I try to shop local when possible.
Have you seen Bloodline yet? It's a great family drama with some twisty crime stuff too.

  4. Hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving! I am planning my Gilmore Girls watching starting tonite - so excited. I loved Bloodline, too! Also a big Once Upon a Time fan and Greys, which is still maintaining it's excellent quality despite all the characters on the show that I don't like. Leftovers tonight. By the way, looking forward to The Leftovers on HBO hopefully early next year. Great theme song on that show.

  5. Yes, leftovers again for us tonight also (not complaining!) :) I think my husband and I tried Bloodline, at your suggestion, and we didn't like it, don't remember why . . .

  6. I just saw your update--just one, and it is Nelle and SONNY???? I thought that she would go after Michael . . . OMG, I REALLY was hoping this would NOT happen!! First the election, and now this, it is too much, I tell you, too much . . . They probably didn't do the deed, but there still is a giant ewwww factor, she is WAY too young for him . . . So they are doing a repeat of Carly going after HER mother's husband, and this is Carly's daughter? Is that what you think>

I was getting ready to write this when my husband came into the room, so I took the opportunity to excitedly show him your bingeing recommendations, hoping to sell him at least on The Crown. He said, "This all looks like chick s--t." Nice, huh? I said that YOUR husband watches The Crown and likes it. Looks like a no-sale . . . Like I said, I might end up watching it alone.

** For me at least, since Nelle started to work her way into the family, the first thing that came to me (like probably most everyone else here that's watched GH, or just soaps in general for quite awhile) they were going for a repeat of the Bobbie/Tony/Carly triangle. Then over the last few weeks, I was really surprised when more and more, it started to look like she was going after Michael, instead. Unfortunately, the last 5 minutes of Wednesday's show completely obliterated any hope I had, they were going in that direction. Though, I'm not sure she is Carly's daughter, but her sister from Durant, is a more likely and logical scenario. That having been said, I know trying to sort out/apply logic to anything Jelly writes, is pretty much a wasted effort. (Having ranted about it more often that I probably should, here.) Yet, for some strange unknown reason, I seem to still try to do it.

  10. Hi Karen, I've never post but enjoy this blog, all the comments & commentators. I have been following for a few years now & I love this new segment.
Do you have Hulu? I got sucked into *11.22.63 with James Franco-based on the Stephen King novel with the same title. Seen some promotion for it but didn't quite get the gist. So during this long weekend I decided to see what it was all about and before I knew it I was five episodes deep and just needed to know what was going to happen! Next it was 3am and I had just finished the season-eight episodes, satisfied, wondering will there be a season 2, & how? So many other questions, it's a good show and I loved the garb of the 1960's and the twang of speech back then, just the difference from now and then are so vast yet so similar.
I actually caught two Christmas movies-normally I just pass them over but one was a twist; the main characters were not white. It was called *The Christmas Swap. The plot was relatible, dealing with a grandmaother with dementia; I understood the character. It was on Channel "TVone" which is probably why--being that is mainly a "ethnic" channel. The other same ole-I just fell on the channel and ended watching it-unrealistic fairytale-ish tale.
Thoroughly loving *Insecure on HBO; it just wrapped up its season finale last night--It has been signed on for a second season. Issa Rea, the creator and one of the main actresses on the show, is amazing. I was first introduced to her accidently while randomly going throught YouTube. She developed and produced a mini-series (?) on there years ago named *The First Series and it was sensational.
Interested in *Gilmore Girls, *The Crown, *House of Cards (I need to catch up...)*Black Mirror will probably scare the daylights out of me so I am building my courage up to watch. Just too close to home for me...lol
