Sunday Surgery: Goodbye To You

NOTE: I JUST noticed I didn't post my Friday Blog!! SO that's up as well!! Sorry!

So this week sure packed an emotional punch, didn't it? While I would have set the pace very differently (I'll get to that later), it still was a roller-coaster for me. This show can be both entertaining and infuriating at the same time!!

Goodbyes this week: Marshall, Violet and Sam... (Goodbye to YOU sung by Patty Smyth)

Meanwhile, between the Holly revelation, Heather getting out and Kelly's last scenes  the comment boards were light up like the 4th of July. It was crazy.

Let's get into it, shall we??

I'm starting with the most fun part of the show, and that was Brad. He got Lucas a nice cinnamon bun and flirted a bit.  Then he was trolling Portia so hard I was dying. First he tells her (in front of Liz) that he's off to a Woodchuck's game and she has to say "have fun". Then he tips his hat to her when he's leaving. Pure gold. It was unexpected because Portia and Curtis had a big, serious convo about Heather and were hugging at the time. Perfection.

On the DNA front, Sasha went and told Robert what Holly told her and that she didn't believe it. Robert being Robert was like: We're going through the WSB for a DNA test so she doesn't know. He was totally like: Meh, yeah, I can see Holly lying about this!! Of course, we found out that she is indeed his daughter. Anna wasn't happy about it, that's for sure. She read Holly the riot act.

What did Holly do? She went to Cody's horse house and tried to get him to 'do a job' for her somewhere else that involved gambling. Now, I don't know about you but this was the strangest scene in a long time. Holly waltzes in... starts saying she stole the Ice Princess and pleased to meet you. Want to gamble with me? Then Cody starts telling her his life story! Just so.. contrived. Why did they do this? Oh, so Sasha could run in at the last minute and confront her mother, throw her out and have to tell Cody the truth. Exhausting.

Speaking of wasteful scenes, Diane and Alexis are working while waiting for Sam's surgery to be over. They talk about life and yada yada until Alexis brings up the fact that Heather is out of jail. You mean to tell me tht DIANE --a prosecutor who was attacked by Heather wasn't informed?  SHE should have told Alexis!! Just weird. I'm also mentioning this because Joss found out at a party and who knows if Sasha is aware of anything. :shurg:

On to the meat of the show. So, Sam agrees to the more risky operation even though Lulu's chance of survival is minimal. I mean, people donate every day, what possibly could go wrong? Then Sam has her brother Lucas do the operation by signing a waiver. Well, this is a tragic set up if I ever saw one! Yikes.  Sam's last few scenes were poignant for sure. The cast gathered at her bed, he saying goodbye in the hallway with an "I LOVE YOU" Sign. The problem for me is that they were chopped into other  scenes that didn't fit. I know we jump around but again, this should have been done in a 2 day arc with speed and sympathy.

The tears were real and I'm glad they had all the kids on deck for this. Even though you're a professional it had to have been hard to film. Kelly told Twitter that the sign from her wasn't scripted. How she'll pass is another question I have. With all the chatter between Lucas and Isaiah and Liz concerning Lulu's ventilator and Cyrus popping up now and then I wonder if he does something. Why would he? To 'give Lulu back her family". That's all I can think of. He was going to unplug her as a 'gift' but now with the transplant there's hope.

I wanted to mention this lovely Tracey/Laura scene. Laura thanked Tracey for caring for Lulu when she was in the hospital/rest-home. Tracey said all the right things. Gah.

Another wonderment for me?? I'll say it again--RIC LANSING! Yep!. Loved him with Ava and I'm a RAva shipper now. Then he panics when he finds out that Heather is being released. He runs to Liz for help and she tells him 'you're on your own'. Ric then has to go to Marshall's party and drop a bombshell. He had the right amount of nervous energy that was needed in that scene. What happens next? He figures out Heather has no where to stay and talks to Liz about taking her in and HIM moving in too!!! It was a delightful little LiRic moment for sure! How about that Molly and Ric scene? One of the best of the week for sure. Two great actors doing great acting things. Loved it. Felt genuine and it was flawless.

A REAL OUTDOOR PRISON RELEASE SHOOT!

Heather of course, ended up saying she'd go to AZ with her son Steven Lars. Curtis flew him out and gave him money to 'take her away'. Curtis with the power-moves!! I loved he didn't ask Sonny about it or Jason or anyone else. HE DID IT HIMSELF!! :clapping:  That has seemed to work (for now) and Heather had her BLT and decided to go with him.  They went to GH to say goodbye and ...LAURA GETS OFF THE ELEVATOR. DUN DUN DUN. I swear she's going to talk Heather out of it. I can just hear it now. UGH.

All of this AND Violet left!! You couldn't have saved that for another week or so?? Or done it last week? Welp, she's gone to Seattle to live with Finn. Emotional scenes all around. Tracey was of course, the most poignant and she gave Violet Lila's tea set. Violet also wished for a "girl cousin' so I bet Brook Lyn's going to end up with one real soon. I'm thinking Violet may be back now and again ala Emma to visit. We shall see.

There were SO many little scenes this week that it's hard to keep them all straight. Holly went to Sonny to try to sell the diamonds. Brennan and Anna are warning people Sidwell is in town. Brennan gets Carly to do his bidding with Jason. Marshall's good-bye party in the beginning was just a fun family thing. He didn't play his clarinet ?? And Joss and Dex were out of place and then went home to have sex. *Sigh* Gio came in to sleep on the couch at Trina's and Sasha went to Nina's about her mother-father situation. It was exhausting. So much of this should have waited or been sprinkled differently over the main situation of Sam/Lulu operation. Time could have jumped or shown to be passing for the operation. We know it's going to take a day at least to perform in real time; speed it up for drama time!

This week was a ride. There were many things happening that it really did need to be watched. I guess that's a good thing. I'm not sure the full effect of Kelly leaving has hit yet but a lot of people seem to be saying: I'm done. I personally am liking the Ric situation enough to stick around. I also want to see the Sasha fall out and possible murder mystery if Heather stays in town. (TOTAL Speculation on my part, no idea what's happening with that).

Portia made an impassioned speech about Heather's release and the judge being lenient on her because Trina is a young black woman. She says if it was a white girl, things would have gone down way differently.  Very important point and I was surprised GH went there. They have said some things in the past about this but haven't really gotten anymore than Portia's soliloquys.

Noticing: More outdoor shots. We've had a number in cars, in parking lots, the park and now the jail gates. Brennan and Carly also talked outside in front of GH. I like this trend.

Have a good Sunday. I think next week on GH should be a tear-jerker for sure.

  1. Thank you Karen. I will add a few of my "two cents" this week.

I think that Heather is going to end up kidnapping Ace. She told "Steven Lars" that she wants to see Ace grow up. Laura will sort of say "no", and Heather will be her old Heather and steal Ace.

Why don't we ever see Robert and Diane kiss, or in bed. She just goes into his office and sits down. That is "age discrimination"

Also, I liked Holly when she and Robert were first together all those years ago and didn't like Anna when she came on the scene. Now my feelings are the opposite. Other than the stupid writers making and act dumb and cry, I truly love Anna. Holly is a scheming little witch. I think she has a pull with the WSB and eventually we will find out that Sasha is not Robert's daughter. I do NOT want Robert to have another daughter. That is sacrilege to Robin IMO. I know "it's a SOAP" happens all the time. Oh, and Holly pissed me off trying to lure Cody away with manipulation of Cody to go do a "con" with her made me mad.

I don't think Kelly Monaco should have been fired, but they fire soap stars all the time. It really is sad though :( Once upon a time JaSam were one of my favorite couples.

Poor Lucas :( And, I bet you are exactly right about Cyrus messing with the ventilator :(

Good to see Steven Lars even if only one or 2 days. I think I was on a GH break when that actor left. WHY did he go to prison? And, that is so stupid for an upstanding doctor like him to go to prison.

Oh, and it really sounds like JPS (and Charolotte) will be returning soon. That is another one that PISSED ME OFF. They ruined him and they ruined VAnna who was my favorite couple. This show just pisses me off.

OK, I have said my long rant. I haven't watched much of GH this year :( I don't like the show when it gets this horrible.

    2. I think Tristan is pretty frail right now and the desk/office things are about it?? That's just my opinion tho. Thanks for reading, I appreciate it!

    3. Ya. Tristan does look frail. :( My favorite

    4. Soap stars do get fired, usually not as often after 20+ years and part of a important family with the finality of this story death. Then again Karen made a good point about Alan.

  2. Soaps kill off legacy characters unfortunately. Killing off Alan Q was 100x worse, for me, then Sam. I despised Guza, but kept watching and have been entertained. Take your time to grieve and come back.

    1. Oh, I'm not leaving -- (if you mean me!) the one I was hit hardest with was Georgie. Alan was up there. Guza and Co killed off SO MANY characters.

    2. I'm ok with killing as long as the door is open for her return. This was a final f you to KEMO imo and I feel bad for her. They can always make up a crazy story to bring her back.

  3. ''This show can be both entertaining and infuriating at the same time!! '' So true.

Karen, you and I seem to like and dislike the same things. It looks like the producers are cleaning house a bit and I am totally fine with that. Goodbye Sam, Marshall and Violet. I hope Cody and Sasha are the next to leave.

I think Frank and ABC/Disney completely mishandled Kelly Monaco's firing and could have done it with more grace -- including just having the character leave town -- but I am not sad that Sam is going. I never liked the character much and Kelly has been phoning it in for years.

November sweeps start this week, so I hope things kick into high gear.

  4. Thanks for another great SS!
Partially organized chaos is what I'd call this week. Some good, some not so good.
Parry Shen posted that his hat tip to Portia was also unscripted. He said she loved it.
Just when you thought they gave up on torturing Sasha, boom...a big one. We don't really know if Robert is her father but the writers probably don't either at this point. I guess every soap needs a Holly to mess up their worlds.
I so agree about Ric Lansing.
Before I even read the blog today I had the song "Goodbye to you" running around in my brain. Now it's planted.
Our colors of fall have peaked here but still lovely. Enjoy your Sunday!

    2. Agreed. Would have been awesome if it was just her middle finger to the powers that be.

  5. ---the only reason I don't think Heather will kidnap Ace is cause Laura has to deal with Lulu right now. I think she is leaving ---- I dunno.
----November sweeps is gonna be Lulu, Sam, Holly, Sasha, Cody (I think he is leaving).....not much Sonny this time...shoot - bet Drew/Willow/Michael is some of sweeps....I cannot believe we still haven't seen that HORRIBLE opponent he talked about.
-----timing is so off: the custody battle of Avery is 2nd week in November/not in a few days.....and then again Anna dropped Cates death and NOW declares she WILL find Valentin....I think Charlotte is gonna be REALLY SORAS.....
----I like nu Lucas but it irritates me he is on SO MUCH and we aren't seeing other characters.........
-----In my November sweeps, Kristina, Molly, TJ, Drew, Willow and Michael would leave town...........
