Friday Funeral -- Amazing

Nice opening sequence with close ups of people/places while Valerie says "Last Watch" --

Everyone goes to the funeral-- Spinelli is there. Frisco "Couldn't get away"... Maxie wants a minute alone in the apartment. She looks at the blood spattered photo of the ultrasound. FLASHBACK to first time she saw Nathan. Damn, Ryan P is gorgeous!
OMG!!!!!!! GEORGIE Shows up!! She 'comforts" Maxie. Tells her she doesn't need anyone to save her, she has the inner strength.

Nice Dr. O Franco scene--and Anna and Nina one too.

GAH.. Nina's eulogy is HEARTBREAKING!! Wow, Michelle was stellar. I haven't cried like this for a soap in years. The whole thing was done SO WELL. wow.  Dante folding the flag, reading the "final inspection" poem.  Presenting the flag to Maxie.  Amazing Grace on the bagpipes!

The graveyard scenes felt so raw and real. Geesh. I'm a mess. MESS ..you HAVE TO WATCH THIS. I'm not spoiling the ending just yet but I did sob.

At The Floating Rib Spinelli sings "Danny Boy" chokes up and Amy helps him finish.
Lulu finally goes over to Maxie and Maxie tells her she should be sorry because "you killed him". Ut oh..
KUDOS to GH because that was a remarkable show. I straight up sobbed and I really don't do that often.  I'm exhausted.

Kristina Wagner tweeted this--"Ryan takes the cake"!! At least they gave him a great send off!

  1. Oh I sobbed too. And when Spinelli said he was having trouble speaking, I was thinking...No, don't sing...I can't take any more. He did and I sobbed again. That episode should definitely go in for the awards next year. Everyone was fantastic.

  4. Omgosh is right! I was choked up and sobbing the whole show too! It was soo,soo soapy good and so true to life at the same time. From final call, last inspection (love it!!),gun salute, amazing grace on bag pipes and Spinelli & Amy singing Oh Danny boy! Everyone and everything was spot on! Maxie needs someone to blame & hate and unfortunately it's usually someone close to us so looks like LuLus gonna be that for her. So sad but so good!

  5. Naxie's home: GAH so sad!!!! :( Why does she still have that bloody sonogram?!!?!? She should have cleaned it, or geez just get another one! :(

Maxie and ghost Georgie: GAH! SAD!!!! I felt tears forming!!! Good to see you Georgie!!!

    Police station:

Dante: When he was standing there with his serious face, and his head up, ROFL! So funny. :)

Jordan: When she was talking into the radio, who the heck was she talking to? Wasn't all her police offers there?

    The funeral:

Nina: So sad!!!! Great scene with her talking and showing everyone looking at Nathan's body. :(

    Auggy and Nathan:

Auggy: Let me just stand there and look like I'm constipated and pretend I'm sad that my brother who didn't even know I existed, has died.

Lulu: So are Auggy and her going to have sex after the funeral?

    Dr. O: GAH! :(

Nina and Anna: At first I thought Nina gave Anna her sleeping pills, but they were ciggies!!! OH NINA!!! :(

Outside: GAH!!! Damn it!!!! Sad!!!! Great scene!!! Made me cry! Love the 21 gun salute!! Love that everyone went up to Nina including BobTodd. And V.C. smiling at Auggy haha. GAH scene so sad!! :( I wonder if the actor who played Nathan has a twin brother and is going to come to Port Chuckles soon. The actor who played Nathan, his acting got so much better!!!! I hope he comes back!!!

Lulu and Maxie: Yeah I was wondering when this would happen. Of course Maxie would blame her.. Hmmmm So is their friendship over? And then Lulu will be so distraught, she will cry on Auggy's shoulder, and then they have sex? :)

Ghost Nathan and Ghost Georgie: GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! :'(

  6. I don't think I have ever seen a send-off like that for a character who was only on for 4 years. That said, it was fantastic - great writing and excellent acting. I will miss Ryan P./Nathan. I love that KS/Maxie is being such powerful material. She is killing it!

*** That's the End of Watch call. A police radio operator calls to the deceased officer, as if to contact them. Thus it is the final call to the officer. After two calls, the radio operator acknowledges that the officer is not responding. The Radio operator then announces that the officer has fallen in the line of duty.

I actually thought the actor who played Peter did a good job there. He was grieving for a brother he'd barely had time to meet, and couldn't really seem to be too upset.

Yeah, but there was no reason to do that in the scene, when all of her officers were there. :)

Yeah the actor is doing a great job!!! :) Glad we have him! :)

  9. Actually End of Watch isn't just for the Police Officers in the station. THose on duty hear the call, neighboring Police Departments hear the call and dispatch, who so often talks to the Police Officers hear the call. They do it in the Fire Service (where I volunteer) as well. It is heartbreaking in real life (and on the show). I have a love/hate with it. It is beautiful and a great tribute, but it is also so gut wrenching and hard on the loved ones.

  10. Great show! Never expected it would be so well done & Georgie, too! I boohooed like everyone else. Kirsten should submit her Emmy reel. This was on par with the BJ’s death episode, which was the most heartbreaking ever. Bravo to all!

  12. I REALLY had a hard time getting through everything, today. It took me about 2-3 hours just to get through it all the way. Having to stop every so often. I've never been able to funerals iRL, even. And now with my pain meds having a side effect that at times can really intensify how some emotions can feel.

  13. It was definitely an Emmy reel. For the show, for Kirsten, Michele and others. I didn't tear up until Spinelli started singing Danny Boy. That song always has an effect on me and it was so well done and special here. I almost didn't watch the show because I was so fed up with so many turns it has taken lately, the dismissal of Genie being the absolute worst and now Anna having a son, etc. I didn't want to watch them give Ryan a big send off when Genie got none...BUT that was small-minded of me....

It was a truly magnificent soap day, everyone at the top of their game and I am glad I saw it. I try not to be negative about soaps--they struggle as it is, given what they do in the compressed time they have to do it. I am in awe about most soap actors given the lack of rehearsal and what they accomplish.

Sorry to hear John Gavin died. Always enjoy watching Connie in old re-runs of Perry Mason...

  14. And THIS is why I continue to watch GH--it can bring it like no other show. . .

  15. I had been to a funeral for a fireman friend on Thursday... the day before Nathan's funeral. Saw the folding flag ceremony, the Last Call, and many of the other things that GH showed yesterday. Couldn't get over how "real" the GH funeral was in comparison to my friend's.

The Last Call goes out over a radio, to everyone on the frequency regardless of what department it is. The Last Call for my friend brought the whole house to tears. I agree with everyone here that this was really well done. I have never seen a TV funeral so realistic whether on soaps or prime time. Loved it.

And frankly, I think if I were Maxie, I'd blame Lulu too. No matter how well-intentioned, she was the one who set the murder of Nathan in motion.

Liked Peter trying to hide his sorrow. I felt that he was afraid to let it show because people would wonder, but yet felt terrible, that a brother that he had just met, had died. Was great acting on his part. Wish Drew and Jason would have feelings like that for each other.

I wish they would have shown officers on duty in the field listening to the call! That would have made more of an impact.. Cus just showing the officers in the station, I'm wondering who the hell is she talking to when everyone was there. And they weren't all outside where I can understand her doing that.. they were in the station all close to her.

"dar said... Constance Tower's husband, John Gavin has died"

    Oh no. :(

** That would've been good. Though, it looks like they spent quite alot on the funeral and service itself. With how tight budgets are anymore, it's not too surprising they didn't do it. What they did do, was VERY well done. With equal parts beauty and sorrow. It was DEFINITELY the most touching one I've seen on a soap in some time. The one that was just done on DAYS a week ago, was just embarrassing in comparison, to what GH did. (Though, on a bit of a lighter note about the one on DAYS..I'm starting to wonder if RC has something against Thaao Phengelis (sp) Seeing as he's killed him off on both GH and DAYS.

** And it complimented the Stephanie one on B&B Friday PERFECTLY!

  20. K, I agree- both Georgie and then Stephanie on B&B-just wonderful. It was hard to watch Booke get married for the zillionth time still wearing white.

** I know, I ended up FFwing through most of the wedding, and the bit right afterwards when e everyone read a quotation of some sort to them. (Which just came off VERY bizarre, IMO). When B&B is good it can really shine. But, on the flipside it can also descend into the equivalent of self parody (but not meant to be) on occasion. On a bit of a side note: I think Thorsten Kaye REALLY needs to get an appointment with an ENaT specialist. His voice has gotten so bad, it sounds like his vocal chords have been completely shredded, to the point that everything he says just sounds like he's mumbling incoherently. If I wasn't able to use CCs, there is no way I could understand anything he says,
