Franco's Latest Fronkey Project!

 Since leaving GH ("leaving" get it?) Franco has done a number of interesting things. This time is a project on Nick and Nite:
  The Oscar-nominated actor has agreed to appear on the Nick at Nite telenovela "Hollywood Heights."
The gig was announced by the network on Wednesday, but further details about his appearance on the show were not released. The show will kick off in June, according to Vulture, and like any good telenovela, it will air five nights a week. Based on a Mexican soap opera, the show revolves around a shy girl who befriends a rock star (her crush) after winning a songwriting competition and ultimately becomes a pop star herself. 

I so want him to have a pet monkey. Interesting for sure. He's also in some A list projects like "Oz" so he's not entirely going off the rails into bizarre project-world.  Well not yet.

Francophrenia is GH Movie!!

The actor has turned his appearance on the daytime soap opera General Hospital into a "humorous psycho-thriller" called Francophrenia. The movie, which will debut at this year's Rotterdam International Film Festival, was made "by writing a new script for existing footage shot by Franco on General Hospital."
The feature, alternatively titled Don't Kill Me, I Know Where the Baby Is, will debute at the Rotterdam film fest Jan 25-Feb 6th.

Maybe he was doing research on GH! ... People Mag reports: 

 Franco, 33, has sold his first novel, Actors Anonymous, loosely based on his life, to Amazon Publishing, the New York Observer reports.

James Franco's Father Passes Away

 Sad News, I thought I'd post it here since he is in the GH family now. From Showbiz411: 

 

Doug Franco, actor James Franco’s dad, passed away suddenly last week. He was 63. The news was just released by the family late tonight. Doug had a Harvard MBA and was a long time entrepreneur in the Silicon Valley. He leaves his wife Betsy, mother of James, actor Dave and brother Tom. Doug Franco, who was of Swedish and Portugese descent, was one of the nicest guys you could hope to meet. He was also extremely proud of his sons. He told me during Oscar week how awed he was by James’s recent accomplishments and whirlwind of activity– a nomination, the hosting, the school stuff, all of it. And it was with Doug that I happened to walk up the stairs to the stage of the Kodak Theater when the Academy Awards ended this year. He was so eager to congratulate James and take family pictures. A lovely guy, gone way too soon. Condolences to the Franco and Verne families.

Sunday Surgery: HELL Week

 Mad as Hell!! *

That's it. HELL WEEK. Say it. Say it loud!! Cause you know it's true. One child dies, another gets a zip a minute transplant and we find out our fave "louse to love" ran the kid down. No wonder we all wanted to do giant jello shots after the shows. 
What's next!? Where do we go from here? We'll get a bit of S&B with the new kid that Sonny will want a DNA test for (in case it's not Brenda's).  Post-funeral Jake angst... possibly the Aidan reveal at some point. Michael going after Abby's beater, who winds up dead.  Bad boy Johnny getting nastier by the minute. 
Tyler will be gone soon, taking the last of the Cassadines with him.  (Alexis is really "Cassadine light" so doesn't count 100% ) TG will have his vacation, come back, have another vacation. We'll all worry about who might be leaving next--or not. I'll bitch about the problems with editing and continuity. And of course, we'll still watch. That's what we do!! 


Rumors are rampant: Is Jake really dead? Does Franco have him? Is Vanessa leaving again? Did Luke really kill Jake?? 
One rumor that I've seen around a lot is a newbie coming on for Dante-- which sounds a bit like a  Brooke Lyn Redux. I'm so hoping this isn't true. 
Will Maya be recast or just fade away? What about Terrell now that Scrubs is back together? Not much for him to do  is there? 
Will Olivia keep making casserole dishes for grieving people and Dante? 
Why exactly is Shawn going to live in CarJax's gate house? 
What about Abby? Is she legit or working for Franco --or AZ? 
We know not to ask about Bobbie, Monica, Audrey, Leslie or Lady Jane anymore. Listening to Bobbie and then Monica being paged over the intercom during the whole Jake crisis was just so frustrating. Almost like a little stab in the arm. "We know you want them here, but Nah Nah nah nah Nah"...
Oh, on another subject,  I think we can also say if Genie Francis doesn't come back during this Luke/Lucky stuff she never will.

The acting during this story has of course, been stellar. Not much more to say. The actors on GH always bring it.  Emmy reels in the can right there. Taken in tiny doses, GH can be awesome. All together? It's maddening. Just on the idiotic non-use of any medical sense alone, we can agree that at the very least, they don't give a sheeze about being in any way, shape or form "real" on that front. We can only say "it's only a soap" so many times before crying "Foul"!!  

SCENE of the WEEK: Luke realizes that he hit Jake when Lucky comes in with the evidence.  Just the looks between them were worth their weight in emmy gold.

Biggest Let Down:  Franco's big "Threat" to Carly. Uh, what was that?!  

Take a gander at the upcoming Spoilers... read 'em and weep. Or not..maybe you'll fall asleep. Heh, who knows?

 *For you youngins that don't know who'/what that is up there, it's from the movie Network. He throws a TV out the window and yells "We're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore"!!!

GH's James Franco wins Actor Award at Independent Spirit Awards!

Last night, Mr. Franco took home "Best Actor" in the indy awards, one night before he's due to host the Oscars. Doesn't that statue look like a cool bat? Heh..perfect!!

In the press room, he discussed acting in General Hosptial excerpt:
“Because the writing is different, because the way they shoot it is different, the lighting is different and all the dynamics are different, you change,” Franco said. “But the acting, at its core is the same, whether you’re on a soap opera or an independent film or on a super large budget film. It’s just that the world and the context around you changes. Each project has its own reality, but the basics of it are the same.”

He does credit GH for "leading him the the 127 Hour Project" because of the massive amounts of dialog he needed to memorize for the show. Full Article on SpeakEasy.

Franco's Writer's Room Bar and Interview with Film.com

These little tidbits emerged in the interview Franco gave to Film.com  --see full story on the link. I liked the question about how his "Franco" name happened!

On how his role as an artist named "Franco" came about:
"Turns out General Hospital was very open to me coming on. I could design my own character and even write for it. I didn't want that. I wanted the full soap opera treatment. I just said, ‘Make him an artist and make him crazy.' That's all I wanted. They said, ‘We want to call your character Franco.' I thought that was awesome. So the shock of me being on people's screen, being called, ‘Hey, Franco,' keeps people from forgetting it's me. It's like, ‘It's James Franco, but he's acting kind of crazy.' People look at it different from the movies I make. In movies, you just want people to suspect their disbelief. In soap opera, it's so the other world."

Franco has a new bar called "The Writer's Room" in LA...and he's inviting a small  circle of people there for an After-After Oscar Party. Alberta is getting ready!! The Writer's Room will be located in The VogueTheater attached to The Supper Club  and helmed by famous mixologist Daniel Nelson.  
The Guide has the goods on Supperclub, an international supperclub chain that's taking over the historic Vogue Theater on Hollywood Boulevard: "Patrons eat and drink on actual beds while watching edgy performers (dominatrixes, opera singers, midgets on bicycles, etc.) during lavish multi-course meals...which sounds like the BEST venue for Franco to attach a bar to!!
Mr. Franco was on the set to film his eppies for the end of February.

Sunday Surgery: General Hospital Call Button

HEY!  All soapy fans to go to OPRAH's site and fill out a form for the "biggest soap fan". Hell, I know I could send a whole LOT OF YOU over that way! LOL Hit the link and get the info. Thing is..will it be a nice show about soaps or one of those "look at these insane fans" shows?? Hopefully a mixture of both. 


How was your week? This week of GH was pretty forgettable for me. Same ol' Same ol'. I know Brenda wasn't on until Friday... she and Carly did have another nice snark attack on each other. Michael saw Abby being attacked.  *sigh* I realize it's the "catalyst" to his break through but silly me, I really thought it could have happened while the poor kid was in therapy, not while his new gal pal was almost getting raped. Either way, Mon/Tues promise to be big for the acting chops of Chad Duell to be displayed. 

On the other hand,  I do have to plug OLTL again because it's just doing  all those things a soap should do. Using history, vets and giant cast moments to  tell exciting stories. Note how they have two similar stories going on a day and they cut to the scenes while each of the other are talking. Rex/Dorian cutting to Aubrey and Clint.  Shane is being bullied online.  (about his asthma no less). Babies are still switched and we really don't know which one is which one's baby daddy!! A cute scene over scene about the baby names, with both girlies saying the same one.  Priceless. 


If only GH could quit the block taping and endless insertions of characters  while at the same time pulling them back. Case in point: Claire. We don't see her for weeks, she's on with Sonny for 2 days, now she's off again. You'd think they'd have her in the office talking to Theo or Alexis or Diane about things. Nah...why bother? I know "Suzanne" is at the wedding because of AB's tweets, but again, she's been off canvas so long we lose interest. Mayan is on, off, off on. Same with Olivia and Steve. One scene with her eating a grilled cheese sandwich isn't doing it. (they cut a bunch of scenes of her recovering in the hospital, btw).  You know I can go on and on. I still don't know how the hell they are going to "sell" Matt and Maxie when they are on so infrequently  *Sigh* But hey! Tony Geary's back from his giant vacation soon--whoo hoo. :sarcasm: 

The hooplah over Rebecca Herbt's firing isn't dying-- it's still chugging away.  After SOD announced her exit was "open-ended" there's been hope. False hope? Who knows. At least it's not a huge "dying of a tumor' story. There are persistent rumors that Jake is going to die however, and she'll feel responsible, ending up at sister Sarah's to distance herself from Port Charles.  This is only in the "pupa" rumor stage however, a little egg put on Soap Zone, ready to hatch. (like that?! heh).

Looks like Sonny and  Brenda do exchange vows...there have been a lot of  tweets revolving around the reception. (see photos below in blog)  That's great news for the SnB fans..although you know the entire wedding can't be drama free!! NINE days of taping. Good Lord, it's going to last FOREVER on our screens.

FRANCO NEWS: In a Leonard Maltin interview he said he'll  direct GH eppies and there's a second MOCA shoot.  "Post-Modern Art"...okay...I hope they let the fans come to the MOCA again!!  Franco won Best Actor at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

General Hospital's James Franco Gets a Golden Globe Nod!!

Ahahaha, like that?  "General Hospital's James Franco"--- I think the PR department should TOTALLY USE IT!!!
As expected he nabs a nomination for his turn in "127 Hours". The film itself didn't snag a Best Picture nod however. Interesting... however, it did get it for adapted screenplay.
The most surprising thing in today's announcements is that "The Tourist" is up for so many--As a COMEDY OR MUSICAL!! WTF is up with that? Who paid for that sheeze?? Johnny Depp is even competing against himself with "Alice in Wonderland" for best actor in a comedy or musical.

On the TV side, I'm happy for "Mad Men" and "The Walking Dead"... Modern Family, Tina Fey...yada yada. I'm also glad Jennifer Love Hewitt got it for "The Client List" because I so like her in "The Ghost Whisperer" (never should have been canned, imo)

Trent Reznor for music in "The Social Network"!! NICE....

MOST BIZARRE: Get this, Angie Jolie for "The Tourist" is up against Emma Stone for "Easy A"..in what universe would this happen? LOL.

Franco Back in Early 2011

TV Guide is reporting that my favorite Fronkey THE FRANCO is back in Port Chuck this new year. The date seems to be 2/25-ish.  (Corresponding to the Oscars) He's said he's directing the next time he's on, so I wonder what Franco touches we'll see. Balkan connections?? Will he still have his 'stash??! Will THE FRANCO come for THE FACE!?!!!

What can I say? It's almost given he's getting an Oscar Nod-- and we KNOW he's hosting the show.  Great PR or what? They were wondering when he'd make it back, I guess there is a break at Yale.  


Alberta is all happy...Everyone dust off their Fronkey-Gear and start spraying CO77x everywhere!
