GH lost  over 300K viewers.HOLY smackeral.  Now, yes, all soaps did but all soaps aren't fighting for their LIVES. We know OLTL is gone-- GH needs to get up there. The writing has been half-assed to say the least. Now we have Lexi going, a bunch of newbies coming and more poised to leave. 
 Tomorrow I'll be writing and bitching as usual. I so wanted this show to turn around.

Sunday Surgery: Face Transplant

So.. Ron Carliveti is indeed coming to GH once OLTL wraps up. This is good news for ME because you know I think OLTL is a great soap that uses ALL characters, doesn't block tape all the time and is exciting. I'm not sure GH will last much longer but hopefully if it DOES--it will be a great ride. 

 WHERE'S my SLEEVES?!

This week on GH was interesting, especially the lighter touches. I think Wolf gave Sam her little 'woman's lib' speech, don't you?! Also the Sexis stuff was grand. I think Nancy and Maurice did a lot of their own stuff. I even chuckled a bit.  Vanessa tweeted her last days from the set. You saw the photos I put up.  So, there's a year of Brenda Down the Drain.  Looks like she's going to get mad at Sonny for helping Carly win custody of Josslyn. Hmmmm..


Well, there is a lot of work to be done, we know that. Wolf has said "Sometimes they come back" and there's a rumor on Raven's page that JPL (Rex/OLTL) may be the recast for Dillion Q. Meaning, maybe the Q's will be back in business! He can get back Wally Kurth for me too! She also mentions a younger actress coming over but I have no clue which one. My JFP rumor is on there as well, we've both heard she's out. 


New writers, new actors-- possibly new producer. Does this mean GH has a chance? At least a year.  Maybe a miracle will happen and it will be SO GOOD the ratings will go up to 5.0 again (ahahaha) and we'll be sitting pretty. I was thinking about product placement as a means to make money.  Think about it. Samsonite luggage for Carly to pack with-- Stoli Vodka at Jake's, Joss using Huggies. What the heck.

Jamey Giddens over On Daytime Confidential wonders if this is due, in part, to the Couric announcement. Hmmm, maybe so, but if you're not "in the net loop" you might not have even realized the impact that could have. Since they only count Nielson families, it COULD be the fact that GH is just plain dull right now. Vanessa Marcil announced her leaving as well-- many that tuned in for SnB are tired of being yanked around with people back and forth. This is NOT good news. Especially with GH's fate hanging in the balance. My other thought is (and yes, I'm saying it out loud)--will the actors jump ship knowing they have a 1 or 2 years left? Sad, sad situation.

OLTL today was so fun... Cutter, Ford and Brody were all shirt-free a the same time. LOL!  AND David and Dorian are home AND Tess totally licked her whole bagel so Ford couldn't have any. Tess and Ford were hot. wowza. I love how they are writing Lang out, to do David's movie with Marko!! nice... 

GH: Today was 2 people in a room day. Good GOD. I really wish they'd put more than 2 characters together, it so sucks!!

Underwhelming for a Friday. To say the least.

I asked people on twitter their fave soapy names over the years. I got a ton! Eden, Greenlee, Flame--Luna, Cruize, Spike, Ridge, Fallon, Jagger, Stone... Frisco. How about you??! I loved Nina and  Devon from #AMC Seneca from Ryan's hope..Lori reminded me of that one.

General Hospital was LAST in Total Viewers for Soap Ratings last week.

Wow.. WOW. . This actually makes me sad--sad for the show that once was. After watching Wed, and knowing there can be so much more to this soap, just breaks my heart. Many people were lamenting the show after catching the marathon on SoapNet over the weekend. Shows where it once was in cast integration and more fresh ideas.

GH is still 2nd in 18-39 women however, you can see how many other people watch if it skated to 6th place. This show has the best actors out there. WTF-- AND Vanessa's back!! What is it going to take to get this back on track? On another note, I am so glad OLTL is up there because it deserves it.

Here's Lisa in ITALY!! She found a fun store close to her heart. That's another character I miss on GH--and now she's going to sleep with--STEVEN?! :throws hands up:  I mean, I like them both and maybe if they saw each other more than 1x every 5 months, it would make sense. Nothing happens naturally anymore.

OK, enough of that!! OLTL was fun today, although the new Joey is bland as soap water.  Aubrey seems ok. Inez can get killed for all I care. 

GENERAL HOSPITAL TODAY:  IT'S THE BIG DATE DAY!! And where do they go??! METRO Court...because?????? errrrrrrrrrr?? And why did Sonny bother to even argue with Carly!!? 

OMG...those black shoes and DRAMA music when people talk about Jerry Jax!! ahahhahaaha. I was crying laughing. AND the Jerry Jacks mention 99 times today! I really think  this show is written for 12 year olds.  Someone says "Jerry Jacks" and we see black shoes tapping. Like 5 times. LOL How can Dante even think the Balkan could be Jerry Jacks? The Balkan had a KID that was too old to be Jerry's. Well, unless we get some trick GH aging.  Then again, this is GH.  Someone told me  the Balkan won't be "Theo" because DB has scheduling conflicts..but I'm not buying that yet. I still want Suzanne to be the Balkan, it would be brilliant. 


What WAS the point of the Jax/Olivia scenes?? I love LLC and I'm glad she was on, but geesh. It was such filler.

Sunday Surgery: General Hospital Prescription: Ritalin

I'm trying so hard. I really DO give kudos to a show when it's deserved. GH is just on my last nerve lately. Ever since I read that Guza said he was "Hyperactive" during his Branco (@sudsreport)  interview, I can't get it off my mind. GH really IS ADHD and in need of some meds...fast.

So, I've written and rewritten this blog about 3x before publishing. Some people accuse me of being TOO negative about GH. I'm trying to take a critical approach to a show I LOVE and have loved for over 30 years. Trying to watch and blog everyday is difficult because I notice when stories have been dropped, or changed or scenes cut. I notice production, editing and dialog. While GH's production has always been top-notch, it's the other elements that can really make my head spin. I can tell that there's little attention payed to what has been said even 2-3 months ago. I can see great actors languishing in the background with little to do. I can see wonderful stories and couples that are over-played and over-used. Balance goes out the window. When I see "Mike" I am so happy-- until I realize he should be on more than 3x every 6 months, inserted into a random scene here and there. Same with Monica, Edward, Matt, Kate. On and on. Olivia is a character that was on 24-7 when she first came and now? She has little to do because not much attention was paid to building her character up outside of Johnny and being Dante's mother.

These just aren't stories anymore, they are just series of moments that someone sticks together on a whim.  Slow down...and by slowing down I don't mean to bore us to tears like was done with the Brenda  "comeback".  I mean take some time to map out your story arcs and then tell the beginning, the middle and the ending. I'm going to use OLTL's Destiny story as an example. This was something that has been building for a long time.  The characters have been around long enough to make us care and figure out their family dynamics. Destiny always worshipped her brother Greg...Shaun was always jealous of him.  They used these details and then weaved them into the Eli story perfectly. The villain Eli didn't just pop up as a random  "Baddie" character either. (ie: Balkan). Not a faceless man people were chasing in the shadows. He was on the show for awhile and built his character up so that when he did go evil, it was a sight to behold. The new characters of the Ford brothers were also brought into the story. Eli had already romanced a high profile character  (Blair) bringing the Cramers into the whole thing. He went after a Lord-- and then..then there's Hannah.  Brilliant casting, brilliant story building on that front. He uses the crazy teenager to do his dirty work and she ends up morphing into this awesome nasty villain in her own right. The next generation Margaret. You know she'll be back!! On a side note, even Destiny's new boyfriend Darren has a brother on the police force. It's giving some connections to use in the future. If only our Diane had someone say, Claire as her sister or even cousin. Newbie Abby-- had some connection to someone in town. Don't drop stories that started (Valentin) with no explanation at all.  Soap fans have the longest memories ever.

I know I tend to make fun of accents and the 'cardboard' scenes that are supposed to be taking place in foreign countries.  That's the sarcastic side of me..I will always do that, but it's not as serious as when I feel a story is being completely blown. It's a whole different Fronkey then.

I just want GH to feel like a community again. A family that I tune into everyday that makes me feel that I want to watch. I would have loved for Robin's birthday party to have been longer and bigger.  I'm a sap for that kind of stuff. I would love to see Maya trying to fit into the Q household on more than a 1x every 4 month basis. I want to see more than just sniping and fighting and Sonny buying a strong woman a dress and reducing her to an obsessive shrew. I wanted to see Brenda come back and fold into Port Charles, maybe through Crimson... yes, she still could have had a backstory but not one that's going to take eons to tell and involve yet more violence. Suzanne could still be the charity lady but maybe a secret Cassadine..or related to Alexis on her mother's side? I just feel such randomness from the writing. Random can be good, or it can be completely off putting for a soap. Like I said, balance. Giving us a scoop about Alexis and Mac being "thrown together" is exactly that. Thrown. It's been done, either build the story or move on.

For those of you that have stuck with me even when I'm Negative Nancy,  I thank you.  You know I care about this show and about the actors and fans. I think GH has one of the best communities OUTSIDE of the show I've ever seen. Fansites, charity events...you name it, we're there. Even people that have stopped watching the show check in and keep up with their fave actors and sites. That's dedication.

We soap watchers can suspend belief for just about anything. SORA'd characters, people turning up who were "dead"...wild explanations. One thing I can't suspend is the blatant disregard for making a story engaging and enjoyable. Sticking things in and then letting them disappear. Can't do it.

Now,  I'm  off to give my neighborhood some tricks..er, I mean treats. Hope you have a great Halloweenie and I'll see you Monday.  Candy-bloated I'm sure!

Sunday Surgery: General Hospital--Calling for the Paddles!

Paddles can be used to save ones self from a sinking ship. Row away in the lifeboat. Paddles can also give a jolt of electricity to a heart so it beats back into life. GH needs both. Big time. Seen the ratings lately?? GH went down by some 200,000 people. Not the usual 100,000 'swing voters' but double that. That means people intentionally tuned OUT.

Oh, and by the way, ABC is airing all repeats October 27th-- (a Wedensday) as a money saving venture. General Hospital will take us back to 2005--YES, 2005 where Sam and  Jason talk about babies. Jason is diagnosed with a brain tumor and Sam wants a part of him to live on. Georgie, Lulu, Jax and Liz will all be in this eppy. Why THIS episode? Don't ask me...you think it's prelude to a JaSam baby? Not sure. I would show some classic weddings like Lucy and Alan. Or go WAY back to the '70's!!

Yet another way to prove my point. This has been going on FOR YEARS. and YEARS. It may have been cute and a bit tongue in cheek to do this with Claire, but it just made me realize that things are so bad, I can't even laugh anymore.  I do try to laugh though, yes I do!
Rumors abound that TPTB are upset about the whole reception of Vanessa  coming  back and the ratings not only not going up, going down. Uh...well, when you take 5 weeks to DO much of anything, what do you expect? Cutting out the major PC players that Brenda knew back in the day sucks too.  She's got ties to the Q's remember-- I personally would have had her come back to take over or buy into Crimson. Ugly Betty-ish. But, that's me.

Not to be a total Debbie Downer..so let's look at some of the GOOD things on  the show.

Oh, ok..heh.  Yes, I did enjoy Stone-- he was my "Georgie" of the month. Liked Lisa's meltdown and how Brianna Brown plays Lisa as totally sane in other scenes. She can have me believing that Robin's imagining stuff! LOL. The biggest goof all week was Patrick's "rescue" of Robin from that well. How DID he do it? Bungee cord? Lowering a boom?  NO CGI for me to mock? What?!
Dr. Matt had his scene of the month in Kelly's. Mike was in there too-- you remember him. No? He's father to Sonny and Grandpa to a slew of PC kids.

I often wonder how newbies deal with this show. The whole Dante/Carly/Spinelli revenge plot seems to be on hold while Dante frolics around the "Irish" countryside. I suppose the writers will remember they were about to pull a money-laundering scam on him at some point.  It's crap like that I can't stand. Sort of like never seeing Keifer's mother again. Oh, I can go on and on, but I'll spare you. Alexis should be back soon...Luke will  be on to visit Lucky, then get thrown  into jail in "Ireland" (time off for Tony to do a play) and Suzanne will come to Port Charles. She and Siobhan will both be new transplants. Will Siobhan still wear her TAM and scarf all over the place? Hey, she can totally work at Kelly's ...they used to be the Irish connection in town. Liz is also back, finding out that Brooke Lyn is staying at Wyndemere. Ewww..

SO, will Claire end up pregnant? Surprisingly, rumors are going around about Robin being with child instead of her?!! Claire will  seek revenge..but it will have to do with her being a law-woman. She can throw Jason/Michael in jail at will it seems. Other thingsthat are mind bogglers: Ethan. Can that character languish more? Now he's getting roughed up  by Johnnie's thugs-- I guess so Maya can nurse him back to healt.  Because god knows, she's useless. So glad they got rid of Robin Christopher and kept her :eyeroll: ...

That's about it for this Sunday's surgery. How did YOU find this week's shows? Is Brenda's attitude grating on your last nerve yet? I did enjoy her talk with Sam  (who spilled her entire story in about 3.4 minutes)--and can't wait for Brenda to find out Jason has a kid with Liz!! HA. We also have Sebastian Roche coming back in December, which seems like a long way out if he is indeed, the Balkan. That means waiting through Oct/November for any kind of movement on that front. When I saw this tweet posted on Saturday I thought that it was so poignant--especially coming from a daytime actress that has been in the business a long time. As we all know, As the World Turns...53 years old, went off the air on Friday. Although I wasn't a regular watcher, it's still a sad day in daytime.  That leaves six. Only one in NYC. You have to start wondering just how long they are going to last.
At least one actor on General Hospital has said they give the show "six years, tops". Another has said that the future for them might lie in production of a web-based serial series. Notice how many people are already involved with that genre? Well, buckle up for some more.  Of course, you'll never hear that from the producers-- but the ratings are really bearing out the idea that alternative programming will not only cost less, but will free up a lot of time for newer syndicated shows like "The Doctors".  It will be interesting to see how the new talk show does on CBS--can another show make it along side "The View"?? If their ratings are better than the soap numbers, look out.
AH HA!! What's the wild card here?? THE FANS!! That's right...we love our soaps damn it. They have a great deal here--people that watch that spend money. I do think they'll keep some of the shows on the air, and I do think we can weather the storm. NOTE to producers: THE WRITING  needs to captivate us. Buzz needs to be created. You can do that with big time guest stars, or you can  do it with knock-out writing. OR, hey, here's a concept: BOTH!!
Ratings for last weeks GH? 2.0!! Nice work. I guess people tuned in for S&B. Just think if they had done that a month ago!!

On to GH..! There are a ton of new Spoilers are up. Looks like Lucky's going to be locked up in Ireland and receive a surprise visitor--Daddy Dear? Siobhan is going to end up in Port Chuck, and so is Suzanne. As you can see, Brazen steps out on the town--and Brenda will be drugged with heroin. Claire and Sonny will do it again...guess where?

Mr. Geary should be back on screen in the beginning of October...and Becky is already back taping.

Oh, it finally happened.  Their eyes met from across a crowded Rome street set. Sonny dropped a magazine just as Brenda was turning. Then, an older woman caught his eye just as Brenda was running to Sinclair. Oh, the agony. Finally at 3:57pm Friday, they looked at each other. Underwhelming to say the least. I didn't even see a spark in Vanny's eyes. I guess I expecting to see her look a BIT surprised to see ol' Sonny boy standing there.
Yeah, the big Sonny and Brenda meeting happened. To me, it came at LEAST two weeks too late. WAY too late. I personally think the whole Monty Sinclair, Suzanne,  Balkan-Thugs were such a waste of time. For real, do we even care? My favorite part of the whole thing was when Brenda started arranging fruit in her hotel room. The highlight of the week. Heh. As far as this "Balkan" crap goes, all I can do is roll my eyes.  I am glad that Lucky will be some kind of under-cover hit man for a bit. At least he'll be out of boring PC. I'm sure we'll get "Irish" stuff to look at. Pubs? Clovers? Red-Headed Lassies? Given the fake Italian accents we had to suffer through, I can only hope they hire a diction coach for some Eire-Speak.
Discouraged? You bet. Seems like there are a lot of us that are. Ratings for the week of August 23rd were down from the week before.

THEN, its been spoiled he's going to fall into bed with...Claire. @@ Jason's going to go to Rome to "take care of Brenda". Sam's all jealous in Port Charles.  Carly's all jealous in Port Charles (We don't know why because Jax doesn't seem to have anything to do with The Face just yet). Brenda is supposedly due back in town by Sept 23rd. That will be a full 34 days since her return. Even with weekends inbetween, that's shameful. I do hear it will be really "fun" when she does get back to Port Charles and moves in with Jason for protection. There will be a "twist" that involves Jax--whether that's the whole Crimson angle or something bigger, I'm not sure yet.
Megan Ward will be on mid Sept with both Jax and of course, Coleman. Maybe we'll hear more about Crimson then.
I'm trying hard not to be a wet blanket on the S&Ber's parade, but I call 'em like I see 'em. So far...not real impressed.

This week I'd love to send Kudos off to Brianna Brown for her subtle rendition of "Looney-Lisa". She's playing it perfectly I think: a creepy smile here and there... twisting her dialog just enough. Loves it!! Too much wouldn't be as nuts or as entertaining.

Check out Brandon Barash's fun video about his "To Shave or Not To Shave" fundraiser for MDA!! He and Bradford Anderson will be in Vegas this weekend for the telethon. Awesome for him to be at "the big show" finally!! He's been raising funds for years for this cause, and was actually in Buffalo, NY last year. Big step up. Jerry must like his stuff.

GIANT NEWS!! Alberta Wubs was in the Sept 6th issue of Soaps In Depth at the MOCA shoot! Julie Berman was walking down the carpet and Alberta (being held by caretaker Amber), was sneaking in to say hello.  Too fun. She's gotten more press than the Wubs Net lately. NEXT weekend we will both be in Toronto for the Falconeri "Brunch and Ball".  Can't wait!

Wowza and a SNAP!! Repeats of Brenda's love life, and Brenda back herself did zip for the ratings. In fact, they went down some.  OUCH. Not even a bump. I totally thought there would be a big bump for that week.
Wow.

What do you think about Michael and Jason? I think Jason will reveal he was raped in prison or something long ago?? and then Michael will spill. I do think Chad Duell is doing a good job.

General Hospital Down in Ratings...

Take a gander at We Love Soaps ratings list for June 7-13th. GH is down to 1.8. It had bounced up to 2.0 for a bit but is down again. People not liking the jail sheeze? With the impending break up of both Spixie and Scrubs, one has to wonder if the Franco stunt can pull them  back out of the basement.

Many people are having trouble posting comments. Blogger is aware of this, just like last time. I can suggest you create another google account if that isn't working. You can also comment under an AOL name or WordPress (it's the 'other column). What was going on to do this? The musical..and I'm hoping the BO/Nora love-fest will carry over!! I rarely post ratings anymore but I thought this was important. The whole Jail thing? Not going great for GH. ALL soaps but OLTL lost viewers!! We need to keep an eyeball on those numbers because with Miss Marcil coming in, they might skyrocket. (her last stint in 2002 increased viewers by 800,000!). Of course, it's the writing that will KEEP us watching. Right?

What happened at the end of last week?...Michael in jail! It will be interesting to see how many people stay/leave the show in this time...a LOT of negative comments about the entire show lately. Then again, 200,000 people didn't watch from the week before!! DID YOU WATCH LAST WEEK?!
