Sunday Surgery: The Week That Wowed

I don't even know how to approach what happened the first three days last week. They were seriously some of the best daytime TV I've ever seen. Hell, I'll even go so far as to say it could stand up to prime time. I'm URGING you to watch Mon-Wed's episodes anyway you can. When I tell you I didn't move an inch during those 60 minutes, I'm not lying.

One of my friends on BlueSky suggested I'd need to have a big ol' breakfast for this one. I'm going to offer you all some brunch. Anything you want. Filler up. Get the coffee and tea. Gather round, it's going to be EPIC!

Let's GO GO!

Note: Paparazzi credits: Sloan Rush and CA Fuzzy.

There is no way I can explain how the editing and direction played into these shows well enough to do them justice. Let's just say that for once, things were done in such a way that you were waiting for the next shoe to fall and when it fell, something else happened before you could even absorb it all.

Writing Jason's departure from the show had to be daunting because Burton gave short notice and let's face it...he's been gone enough times that most things had been done. I expected something rushed and ill-conceived or at the very least, boring. WOW, was I wrong. I had many theories working the whole time things were unfolding. He's going to shoot someone, then leave and Britt will go for a short time and then come back. Maybe he'll go missing...kidnapped...or God forbid, be presumed dead. None of those things happened.

Jason went to kill Cullum and had a rooftop display of  "hitman in the daytime" silliness. No shooting happened and I thought: WELP, there ya go. "Cop-Out"!!.  I should have kept my mouth shut! What happened was this:  Jason goes to Danny's basketball game and meets Alexis in the parking lot. This is happening while Britt is getting the medicine from Lucas on the Pier. Then, all hell breaks loose. So many things I didn't expect--including:

Nathan's role in helping Jason and Rocco

Jason smashing Dante in the face and running

Cullum going to the pier to confront Britt and crush her meds under his heel

Rocco following Britt and witnessing Cullum's brutality

Britt getting knocked out

Jason coming along and fighting Cullum. In a REALISIC LOOKING FIGHT (which I never say about GH). Cullum goes to beat Jason with a baton and...

Rocco shoots him in the back

Phew. Time for a cigarette after that whole sequence!!

Now, I have to back up a bit because before all this happened, Cullum had gone to Alexis' office where Marco was working. Marco had gotten the medicine for Lucas and then was outed by Pascal, who called Cullum. Pascal thought he'd be getting Lucas killed but--BLOOP!!! Cullum has a giant knife behind his back and-- well.. Marco is left for dead.

Instead of Alexis just finding a dead body. Marco is still gasping for air. She tries to stop the blood. Danny is there and calls 911. This sets up some great television moments when both Marco and Cullum are being operated on in GH. Isaiah in one room, working on Marco and Lucas is actually saving the man that killed the love of his life.

Scenes after Marco's death were heartbreaking. I think the best scene all week for me was with Becky and Van because it just felt so real. The voices, the emotions. :clapping: I teared up a little. Sidwell sitting bedside was also powerful.

So much more was happening during this time, I can't write it all down. Brad had a charged scene with Lucas telling him to take care of Britt. We had Valentin and Carly in the kitchen, Ava and Sidwell in Wyndemere and Portia comforting Britt in the exam room. Britt's realization of what was happening was also just perfection. That leads me to...

The Cousins:  Danny and Rocco. The use of these two in this story was also unexpected. I really thought it was going to be Josslyn and somehow Carly  being the heroes but nope. Danny was at his game when Jason was being arrested by Dante. Rocco was over on the docks having his own trauma. The aftermath, especially for Rocco was done really well. He cut his hand because he's a novice handling a gun; the whole panic when Nathan is yelling at him to not tell ANYONE where he was-- the Lulu conversations. Gah, all the feels. Danny was left to scream for his father when he was loaded into the van. Burton's blue eyes were shining with tears. Oh, be still my soapy heart.

In the end, Jason is hauled away to face charges in the WSB for shooting an agent. Valentin promises to use his contacts to break him out and also get the goods that Cullum is a double agent. Sidwell is left with revenge in his heart. Will Pascal tell the secret that he's the one that called Cullum and it was him that killed Marco? What about the whole "Cold Fusion" project now? This might be a way to stop that whole thing from continuing down the tracks.

On Friday's show, Joss urges Britt to kill Cullum. Britt finally agrees but it interrupted by Lulu. In the last scene of the week, Joss goes in and Cullum opens his eyes. DUN DUN DUN. So many things could happen next!!

THE OTHER STUFF:

Brook and Chase get visited by a social worker so they can foster baby Phoebe. That's the exact time Wiley decides to ask them all what a "HOOKER" means. Heh, thank you Olivia!

Laura's whole family is gone from PC when Martin announces he has a client in Reno. Of course, Sidwell set it up but that's that for Marty right now!

Just before he finds out Marco was murdered, Sidwell and Ava share a kiss.

Charlotte drives Danny to see Valentin because she knows what it's like to have a father on the run.

Fizzy got treats from ADA Turner and stole the scenes he was in. Such a good boy!

Two Notes: Dante's nose make-up was on point. Also, thank you for the use of outside shots during the week, they really gave an air of reality to the scenes.

That's about it. I could have written for days about all of this but there's only so much you can say when things were happening at a break-neck speed and you've just been overwhelmed with goodness. Yes, I'm waxing poetic but this is what great soaps are.

Predictions? Rocco riddled with guilt. Alexis trying to keep a hold of a spiraling Danny, Sidwell going off the rails. What will Cullum say when he is off the vent? Lulu keeping things from Dante, and the Britt-Lucas fall out. I also have to say a week without Willow and Drew felt--refreshing. It's just a stale story now. The opening of "Charlie's 2.0" will be coming and baby Phoebe will get in that Q house to start warming their hearts. My hopes? Liz gets a story and at least some of her sons come home,  Molly and Cody move in together and we get some adventure for the summer--maybe with the kids trying to 'fix' things?

CHEERS!

  1. They have some GREAT child/ teenage actors. They need to keep it up with using them in the story lines. Some of my favorite GH was when they focused on Robin, Brenda, Jason Karen, Liz and Lucky etc as teenagers with angst. That was some great GH. There was great stuff back then in addition to the Luke and Laura stuff. I see the talent that they have now and hope they continue to give them more airtime.

  2. Great SS! I also loved the “I love yous” from Britt and Jason - really unexpected. I was wondering what happened to the baton that Cullum was going to use to kill Jason. It would have his prints all over it, if not have been under his body. And did the police pick up the crushed medication? A few holes but an otherwise great week.
