This is a tough Sunday Surgery to write because of the subject matter and the way the show was done. Just a lot to write up and then again not a lot to write up. Sounds weird but hopefully, you'll see what I mean!!
I'll have a nice Americano today-- let's GO GO !
ALSO RANS: We will go over some of the other stuff that happened this week rather quickly because come on--who really paid attention!?
Princess Pea Outback was found and is now living with Cody. Why? Rocco is there half time anyway and come on, that pup doesn't want to listen to Lulu. Good Cody scenes with the dog, Molly and James. Yep, I'm liking the character more and more!
Rocco meets Mommo at Bobbie's. At least she didn't call him Ben. Good scene. Then, well...it all went to hell when Lulu went into Britt's room and Britt had the delusional take that she's 'just as much a mother to him as you are--maybe even more'. Ugh, GIRL!
Speaking of Britt, she got her med and a big ol' C is on the note. EVERYONE jumped to "Caesar Faison" being the culprit. Just after this happens, Nathan gets into an accident and is taken to GH. Anna gets blood samples and fingerprints, Nina visits. YEP! They say it's Nathan!! Only...
Nathan remembers nothing after getting shot by Faison. Anna's like You were DEAD seven years!! He asks for Maxie. Everyone and their brother online is wondering if he has Peter August's memories. Or Faison's?
THE MONICA SAGA
"Oh Monica, you never came across a pantsuit you didn't love" That was just one of Tracey's lovely lines. I can't tell you how great the dialog was for every character. Loved how they mixed humor and history together.
After a brief, strange trip to Atlantic City where Lois talked to Tracey, we all gathered at the Q house to get to the church. The foyer was used more than any other time that I can remember in GH history and it was fitting. Over the years, many many scenes took place there. It's remodeled but still has the same heart. How many people fell down those stairs? How many people surprised others when the door was opened? How many arguments happened there?
The actual ceremony was small and private. Having the entire cast there was probably not in the cards. Jake was talked about and Liason had some nice moments. The speeches were amazing, especially Ned's where he read a letter from Monica. You could tell during this entire week, Wally was paying tribute to his friend, Leslie. We had some beautiful flashbacks that carried through to each character. I liked the attention to Laura and Monica's past because that is right about when I started watch GH full time.
Of course, the real drama came with Drew spitting nails and bitterness to Martin in the hospital threatening to go to the memorial. We were THISCLOSE to Marty talking him out of it OR of him being too late for the service. BUT!! Of course we needed the soapy part of Tracey wheeling his ass out and whispering in his ear to stay away. It also gave Tracey the pause she needed to say a few powerful, beautiful words about her 'sister' Monica. TISSUES please!
Nice moments followed. Gio listening to family stories, Lulu reminding Laura that the "entire world" came to her wedding and Olivia cooking in the kitchen, feeling like a true Quartermaine. Stella and Tracey moments. ALL of the Jason moments. When Tracey and Laura hugged it reminded me that Genie and Jane are now the longest running actors on the show. Sniff.
They did explain the absence of the children (Jake away, Scout not allowed to come) but it would have been nice to have at least Leo, Danny and Rocco at the house. I know constraints of scheduling and that's just a tiny part I wish was different. It was also sad that Yuri wasn't included. I really really wanted to see him say good bye to Miss Monica. Unless I missed it, I didn't hear a Dillon mention either??
Portia, Felicia, Stella, Laura and Elizabeth placed Monica's photo next to Alan's on the wall at GH. Nice touch. Since we had a bigger dedication to her when LC really passed (opening the cardiac wing), I appreciated this little moment. One bug a boo? Terry was needed as well.
Hope you had a good week.
I love that picture of Alan, Monica and Emily. I bet the 3 of them got along well IRL.
ReplyDeleteI have a question: Did Monica ever mention a sister or family in all of her years on General Hospital? From my recollection (which isn't always the best) I don't think she ever had a family. I will "google" it.
I will have to say that I am not really a fan anymore of "St Jasus", but Steve Burton sure did one heck of a job with this material. He is "Stone Cold" no more IMO. Give the man some more meaty material; he can handle it!!!!
The writers (whoever they are) did a fantastic job with Monica's passing. Jane Elliot was fabulous as well. Jane and Genie sure do have a lot of history with Leslie C. Steve Burton does too and well as Wally K .
I was watching the scenes of Jason's "accident" and him becoming Jason Morgan. The acting and direction was spot on. Scenes with Alan, Monica, Edward, Ned, Jason, AJ., Keesha. Check it out on Youtube if you have time.
Just looked it up. I don't remember this, but the internet says Monica grew up in an orphanage with foster mother and sister. So, are they re-writing history with this sister Veronica Bard that shows up????
DeleteI believe we always knew Monica's birth name was "Bard" but they never really explored her bio-family before. My guess is while Monica was in declining health, she did some bed-bound online sleuthing and reached out to them.
Delete--"Oh Monica, you never came across a pantsuit you didn't love" That was just one of Tracey's lovely lines. I can't tell you how great the dialog was for every character. Loved how they mixed humor and history together.--
ReplyDelete100% this! There were so many good lines of dialogue this week and nod to long, complicated relationships. I loved it.
I've never been a huge Steve Burton fan but he did excellent work this week. As I mentioned once before, I hope the WSB offers to let Josslyn go if Jason comes to work for them, This accomplishes several things: 1) Ends the "Joss as secret agent" storyline, which stretches credulity, 2) gets Jason out of Sonny's orbit somewhat, and 3) could switch up the type of storylines given to Jason, which would be a breath of fresh air.
I'm looking forward to Erica Slezak's visit because we need another "grand dame" type to fight with Tracy. If it goes well, I hope she pops up from time to time.
After Elizabeth's interaction with Jason this week, I am hoping we can see a Liz/Jason/Britt triangle. Having Britt and Liz interact could be fun, and she needs more to do.
Oh, one other thing: I'm glad they acknowledged Dawn when listing all the people that Monica has lost.
DeleteThanks for another great SS!
ReplyDeleteWonderful tribute by all involved.
I was never a Jason fan but since he has returned from death his character has grown and SB is doing a fantastic job. Especially this week.
Nathan is a big mystery, as anyone who has been "dead" for seven years would be. If Hiney has anything to do with this I'll be one upset viewer but I'm hoping the outcome is something, or someone totally surprising.
Nothing against BB but why not stay on sports channels where it belongs! Another ABC bad choice. Will be watching BTG in the daytime for a change. Check it out. Jon Lindstrom is doing a bang up bad guy job!
I loved the tributes to Monica/Leslie. The flashbacks were wonderful and the performances were amazing!
ReplyDelete-----I still wonder no Yuri and honestly no Cody??
ReplyDelete----so is Jason really gonna leave working for Sonny? Cause he had talked about it and he has bee UNBELIEVABLE this week.....even his Instagram post thanking the fans he cried...
-----I am befuddled with Erika's character - I believe the letter was real but I DO think Martin has done something to try and make her get the house.....course Martin would never have access (wonder who Monica's lawyer was???) but I bet she/Martin bring in a paper that Monica wrote years ago giving her Monica's possessions.......maybe they thought the sister was dead BUT anyway she claims it's hers....SOOOO glad still that it is very short stint!
-------the Nathan thing just makes me mad.......I think he's lying and he remembers more OR he has been brainwashed ------still think Britt knows about him.....
----what we all know is that this is gonna drag out during October and then November sweeps--------
----I hate Drew and WIllow......THe End...
-----wonder if they will go back to the adoption for Chase/Brook Lynn, ADA Turner and Sidwell after Sonny--------Lucas and Marco? RIC AND AVA?????
You’re still doing twitter?!?!😢. Anyway… Steve deserves to be the actor of the month! Amazing work! I do hope that the powers that be explore the Jason/Liz thing beyond just tantalizing the fans. That’s all I have to say. It was fantastic, and several references made me wonder if Monica left the house to Olivia!!! She’s the new “heart” and I actually wouldn’t hate it because she would welcome every damn Q Nowith a lasagna and a bedroom!
