Soap Net's Lucky Marathon: A Lesson in... Rewind?
W ho watched the Soap Net "Lucky Marathon"??!! WOW... what a serving of Retro-GH. Enough to make this Wubber just ... weep. Even Guza's earlier years had a great flow and little misogyny. Then, something just snapped.
1999: Carly was Sarah Brown..and AJ was there too. Luke's Club was my fave place. It was such a great epi to remind people about early Carly and Jason. Hannah was the FBI girl from hell--ugh, hated her character.
Mike was on...Felicia...Genie and JJ were having tender moments and a good talk. GEESH. sniff.
Emily, Nik...Liz and Lucky all had dinner at Kelly's!! Then Carly went talked to her MOTHER Bobbie at Luke's. Sarah Brown and JZ were so awesome together. Alexis and Jax. They talked about the Gatekeepers! Who remembers Nexis??!! I LOVED V... and Jerry was on (Julian Stone).
People gone from JUST THIS EPISODE: Emily, Nik, Jax, Georgie, Bobbie, Felicia, AJ, Ned, Mike, Jerry, Laura...and Lucky and Robin are leaving too. Families like the Scorpios, Q's and Spencers all disappeared.
Sets gone: Luke's Club, Webber House and Spencer House. Burned down. Nice. ALL BURNED DOWN
"Your psycho blonde & your klepto waitress just stepped out in the alley" says Luke to Jason and Sonny "And I don't think they are knitting" ...awesome line
This was hard to watch-- such a different show then. Such a hugely different show.

Up and down week for me when it came to enjoyment. It seemed like things were shuffled up wrong in the editing room and it made me scratch...
Loved GH in the 90's wish we could have that back instead of all this shit we are stuck with now! Wish SoapNet did more marathons like that where we got to go back in time and enjoy old episodes... oh and I loved seeing the old opening & closing credits (remember when they actually played closing credits instead of some dumb commercial)
ReplyDeleteNexis was my favorite! I even wrote fanfiction starring them...ah, to be 12 again.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched the marathon yet. My mom and I DVR'ed it because my 7 year old cousin was here for the night. We stopped watching FRIENDS Thanksgiving episodes for a few minutes and saw a few minutes of the 1st Lucky episode--so strange to see a mini-JJ. Another time we checked back, there was a scene with Allen and Tony, and all I can think is that both of those characters are dead now and how I was glad that neither was shot to death or died in some sort of mob-related explosion.
sigh.
Thosze WERE the good old days. LOVED Luke,Laura and Lucky escaping and Lucky going on ahead to meet up with Aunt Ruby....then the 4 Musketeers....Laura BEFORE they made her go nuts. NED and Aleis. So much has been lost over the years but most significant is that GH lost its heart and soul. NOW, it is a show about a tired, aging Mobster, his junior Mobster sidekick and their women, with a little hospital thrown in, a litte neurotic alcoholic action , psycho murderers, occasionally a happy couple ,but mostly sleaze.
ReplyDelete.....sigh......sadness...
I couldn't bring myself to watch last night, even though I couldn't sleep... It just makes me want to weep because the show today is not even a shell of its former self.. Its a different show now, with no heart, no soul and a whole lot of empty holes where actual stories used to be. GH was so rich in storytelling and set-ups for stories for years to come in the 90's... Then there was some shift & TPTB destroyed the wealth of amazing cast, writing & history the show had.
ReplyDeleteIt's a huge shame.

I will always believe the writing turned bad because of guza's and others obsession with kelly monaco.once that character came on it became all about her and the mob men, sonny and jason.
ReplyDeleteAnon, they were obssessed with Sonny and Jason and the Mob way before Kelly Monaco arrived ....Carly has consistently been the Mob woman and a few other women, too, before "Sam" arrived in Port Charles. Don't blame Kelly.
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch the marathon because I don't have soapnet, but it's on youtube so I have watched it there. Hey Karen Hannah banana the FBI Hooker! ROFL! I love Carly and her nickname for her hahaha!
ReplyDeleteSonya, my mom put on part of the marathon when she went to bed and she had to call me in to tell her Hannah's name because she couldn't remember it.

Hahahaha I guess Hannah is forgettable! :) Roy sure isn't! YUM! :) Roy is Hannah's father. :)
I watched the marathon and it was really heartbraking, especially with JJ and KM leaving. He was just amazing from day one. And all of the others who are gone, shame shame. The whole format was different then, too, with really extended scenes between characers - had so much more impact. I didn't realize Guza had been around for so long. Everyone looked so young and there were so many actors being utilized. What we have now is really the remains of what used to be.
ReplyDeleteI'm just so upset at myself! I DVRed only 3 of the Lucky shows. Not sure why I didn't think I'd watch them all, but I missed the opportunity. LOVED what I did record and watch--such a lovely trip down memory lane...
ReplyDeleteClean shaven JJ looked almost older then than now. I really don't think the scruffy look ages him.
And the girl who played Hannah is JJ's real-life wife. They didn't work together on the show, but got to know each other after she left the show.
To see that ambulance at the opening and to read credits at the end--really took me back.
It would be great if Soapnet could play some old shows like that--play them in sequence as a storyline. My, it was good to see Laura again....
Anon 3:02, Soapnet does play a classic episode in sequence weekly at 5:00 AM Monday, I believe, which is after the marathon Sunday evening. They have been showing some from the Ric, Alexis cancer, Skye/Lorenzo days.
