Daytime Killer Brian FRONS IS OUT PEOPLE!!

 BYE!

That's right!!!! SID broke the news on Twitter right now....Read all about it on Michael Fairman Consolidation will happen for Daytime...and Frons is moving to some other in-house division.
I just wish the idiot was on YEARS AGO! Even more on Deadline!
This doesn't mean that the soaps are saved and I doubt if GH is staying but hell, I'm happy. His replacement is a reality TV programmer so don't count your chickens.

Frons will assist in the transition to the new structure and will provide counsel to the management team. “Brian Frons has been the driving force in our successful Daytime division since joining us in 2002, and while we understand his decision to leave at the end of his contract, we’re sad to see him go,” Sweeney said. “We took this opportunity to rethink our business, and the result was the creation of Times Square Studios. Having it be part of the ABC Entertainment Group, under the supervision of proven executives Vicki Dummer and Paul Lee, provides us the opportunity to bring greater creative resources, development strength and operational flexibility to this key area of our business.”

  1. "...a driving force in daytime since 2002..."

    Whatever.

As they say down here in Tennessee: the horses are done out of the barn.

  3. So who is all out? Sweeney & Frons?

Good Riddence. But what does all this mean?

  4. Sorry I meant to say JFP is gone.

This could mean one of two things.
They want to save the show or they want to leave the show with such class & dignity. Which will it be??

    GREAT reporting Karen!

  5. I'm glad he is leaving. He deserves it after what he did to Daytime. However, it doesn't make me feel better about GH. The replacement sounds like it's going to be worse. So I doubt Frons leaving is really good news. In fact, it's probably even worse news for GH. I've been trying to be positive but after seeing AMC/OLTL cast and fans basically tricked "No the shows aren't cancelled, they will continue for years" 1 day later: they are over, I can't exactly trust ABC's words and actions. It seems like false hope to me.

  6. Sickening, empty feeling in the pit of my stomach...just so much "business speak" and what does it mean??? Basically that yes, we got rid of all those idiots who ruined our shows...but now there will be NO shows at all.

  7. this means he's out that's all. The new people taking over area reality based producers. Deadline explains it pretty well. I don't think it will save GH but I'm glad he's gone

  9. Karen, did you read Frons' statement about stepping down. He says that he is proud of The Chew and how it's performing! The Chew is tanking!! He is ever the lier and so is Disney. Frons did what he was hired to do, and he doesn't leave until January 2012. He demolished daytime! His work is done and now he will probably move on to greener pastures with more money. Sickening. They are going to finish off GH and take over probably showing re-runs of old shows ( they won't relinquish rights or control ). Too little too late.
My only wish is that I get to see something good happen to Liz before the show ends or she leaves the show. Other than that, the mob will take the show to it's end in june since those stories will not be scrapped for at least 3 months. Remember Garin saying it takes time to finish Guza's storylines. It takes time to finish Garin's storylines.

  10. The new division they created is for non-scripted tv. GH is gone for sure. The lady in charge dealt with reality tv. They will fill their daytime line-up with reality tv and talk shows period. I won't be watching. New stations here I come.

  11. I believe he was asked to 'step down'. The disney corporation knows he was a disaster for daytime. To 'save face' he commented he chose to not renew. BULLSHYT!!!

Now I am wondering if they will give GH a 2nd chance?

  12. Well, it is about 8 or 9 years too late. And his replacement is a reality -based guy so we know what that means. Oh yeah, for sure Frons killed Daytime. The perv. He is just so unattractive and creepy looking, isn't he? Ewwww.

  13. Wow...had this come a bit earlier with Frons going, I might have had a block party! In this instance, I am more of the mind to think...soaps are almost all obliterated from ABC, so many of the other primetime shows on the network haven't done so well, so he's outta there. He's done his job. As Karen said, I don't think it'll save GH, but at least the guy got the heave ho, albeit a little too late!

  14. Maybe the hate mail got to him.

  15. How sad is it that everyone has waited so long for this news, and now that's it's finally here we're all too traumatized to even be glad? It's a shame Sweeny isn't out too, because she certainly had her hand in the pot behind all the cancellations. Bringing in a reality tv producer does sound like the kiss of death, and with Sweeny still holding her position, and her belief that soaps aren't cost effective or worthwhile, this hiring does seem to be little more than confirmation that daytime as we know it is gone forever from ABC. If nothing else, at least this eliminates Fron's influence over the storylines to come. Perhaps we can get some stories that don't revolve around his favorites in before the bitter end. =(

  16. I disagree Adora.
Though GH may be over, at least with these new people in charge, we get finality to this legend soap.
The writing has nowhere to go but up. So as a viewer, we are in a win-win situation.
We win with a great finale, or, we are 'saved' with these changes. (which I doubt)

  17. lol Cents, I am actually not really sure we disagree about anything. My take on fan reaction was mainly an observation that I find sad. I do agree that the writing can only get better; Frons not pushing his weight around and butting into storylines certainly can't be bad. Since I knew OLTL was going off the air I refused to get to invested, but I watched a bit earlier this year -for the first time since probably 1995- and it was great so, like I said at the end, I do think this is good for the storylines. I just wish there was less bad blood and jaded viewers/staff as a result of the whole ordeal.

  18. YIKES I am trying to set up my laptop to wireless and it is stressing me out!!!

Adora...There is alot of HATRED for Brian Frons. From viewers who lost OLTL/AMC and are watching a horrific GH show. To the actors who are in contract having no choice but to play these idiotic storylines. And then we have BF boss. (everyone has a boss, except Mr. Disney) How happy is he with the disray of what Frons did to daytime? He thought PP was the answer, and viewers would forgive abc, however, such is not the case.
All of this stems from abc. YES I blame PP alot, but they didn't have to be in the picture if abc would have done right with daytime before it came to this.

My question is: Is abc trying to keep viewers by making a new division?? A division that will make soap fans happy? Or is this the beginning of the end??
We wait and see I guess.
