You know I'll give a sparkling Sunday Surgery but for today, I want to say a big thanks to the new regime at General Hospital for giving us back our show. Yes, there's been bumps and yes, there have been characters moved over from OLTL but all in all? It's becoming the great story we once knew.
Thank you for giving our vets a chance to shine.
Thank you for have the Q household hum with drama again.
Thank you for giving cameos to characters that matter. Even if it's for a short time, just like in real life, people come and go and "visit".
Thank you for making the hospital a vital part of the canvas.
Thank you for attention to detail.
Thank you for bringing back the strong FEMALES in Port Charles.
Thank you for working hard at balancing humor and tears, it payed off handsomely this week.
Thank you for the crazy. (Heather)
Thank you for the creepy. (Faison)
Thank you for the nostalgia...it's so clear you love the history of this show.
OUR SOAP is back and the ratings are catching up. The shows on Tuesday and Wednesday were primetime worthy and I challenge any critic to hold it up to other dramas.
And with that...Edward's song "We Gather Together" is playing in my head. Have a great holiday Wubbers, thank YOU for reading, commenting and supporting this site. It's always comforting to know we are all in this craziness together!!

This was a MEGA Filler Show

Meredith Baxter This morning it was announced that television icon Meredith Baxter will be taking over the role of Monica Quartermaine....
-
Well, ratings are out. So much for getting rid of Dan and Chris!!! How'd that work out for ya? You see my friends, it's not ONLY T...

Up and down week for me when it came to enjoyment. It seemed like things were shuffled up wrong in the editing room and it made me scratch...
I loved this week's shows. So many great scenes that stand out. Tracy at the crypts. Michael saying goodbye. That final scene. Even Carly strangling Connie with a thong! And the Heather twist! Fun, fun, fun.
ReplyDeleteJust what a soap should be.
ah Frank, it was soooooo good!! Just the right balance. :) xxoo you have a great day
ReplyDeleteEverything mentioned stands out, but for me, the one scene that tugged at my heart the most (other than the last scene) was baby Danny tugging on Edward's finger. My fun standout of the week was Carly strangling Connie with the thong. Boy, for somebody who is supposed to be a smooth-talking toughie, Connie sure ducks, dodges and cringes a lot!:)
ReplyDeleteWonderful week for GH fans. Such a beautiful tribute for John Ingle. Cried my eyes out from the second the pizzas showed up on the doorstep to Edward and Lila taking the stairway to heaven.
ReplyDeleteFranke - I also loved the scene of Carly strangling Connie with the thong. Watching Todd's face was even better! Hahaha.
Soapy goodness all around. Need more please!
Happy Thanksgiving Karen and wubber friends. Enjoy!
The show is several levels above lat year, which makes all the harping so silly. last year it was warranted, this year not.
ReplyDeleteYester's show was terrific. The only minor downside was that, although Edward died cuz of John Ingle, and Ingle played Edward the longest, I still think David Lewis should have gotten a few huzzahs.
Ingle's Edward was a supporting role, whereas Lewis's was often a lead in a story, and his was the first Edward.
That said, Ingle was likely the best long term recast of a prior long term character I can think of. Robin Mattson and Leslie Charleson were recasts but the originators only held their roles a year or 2 vs. the decades the others have.
Well said, Karen. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all GH fans. Make mine pepperoni today :)

ReplyDeleteKaren: here are some spoilers from another GH blog. The guy who posts them is fairly accurate:
ReplyDelete- Carly shows Todd a picture of her ex-husband, Lorenzo Alcazar, and Todd instantly recognizes him as Tomas Delgado, Blair's fiance! Todd states that Tomas is a CIA Agent, and Carly realizes that perhaps the government contact that Jerry phoned years ago to pretend to be Lorenzo was actually "Tomas", who she believes is indeed Lorenzo!
- Carly informs Skye of the news that Lorenzo may still be alive, and the two of them join Todd on a "friendly" trip to Llanview.
- Carly, Skye, and Todd confront Tea with the picture of Lorenzo Alcazar, and demand answers.
- Look for Carly, Skye, Todd, and Tea to crash Blair's wedding!
=====================
Pretty cool that they would combine the characters, esp. since Lorenzo is supposedly dead. How did he survive Jason's hit and become Tomas?
Also, re: heather, I suspect heather may have never been legally divorced from Edward and will stake her claim to ELQ.
Great post, Karen! GH has given us a lot to be thankful for this year and Cartini have made me a full-time viewer again. It's great to see all the vets again and have stories involving multiple generations, which went missing for the most part during the Frons/JFP/Guza era. It's also refreshing to see the hospital come back as a focus and the mob, while it's still around, no longer dominates the show. I agree with all your points & I like looking forward to GH again.
ReplyDeleteVery Nice Tribute and Post Karen. You said it all.....
ReplyDeleteThat picture is of my favorite Thanksgiving episode!!! I miss it!

ReplyDeleteGH is awesome again..am luving the old faces, but also like the new ones, am glad the Frons/JFP/Guza era is over...
ReplyDeleteI am so thankful roid boy is gone. This show is 200X better without Steve Burton.
ReplyDeleteCosmo....Wally Kurth was a good long term recast. Remember when the first Ned had an affair with Monica and he was going by Ward (as in EdWARD). LOL He was a tennis pro at a spa she'd gone to and didn't realize it was Tracy's now grown up son, Ned.
ReplyDeleteRenegade...Still jealous of a fictionous character. Jealousy is an ugly trait. Don't crap up a good blog with your 'issues'over a character. Show some class.
ReplyDeleteI am thankful for the same thing. I had given up on GH after Alan's death and the shabby treatment of the show I loved. Now, I am back, the show is back and I couldn't be happier. Thank you, all behind the scenes and on the screens of GH!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to all!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you guys :)

Yes, but the original Ned, who was involved with Dawn, only lasted a little over a year, so, like heather or Monica, he was not a long term originator.
David Lewis went almost 15 years as Edward, and Ingle almost 20 as his replacement. Those are long term originators and recasts.
I don't recall if Ned ever appeared as a baby on the show- I think he was conceived and raised when Jane Elliott left the show in the mid 80s. He just showed up as a super-SORA'd adult, his fetal, toddler, and teen years all whizzing by in 3-4 years. Now, Wally Kurth is in his 50s.
Actually, Kurt McKinney as the first adult Ned, was on for 3 years. Prior to that, I remember seeing a young boy as Ned, who only appeared sporadically and Tracy referred to him as "Neddy" quite often.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what you mean by long term originators. Was the original Monica on very long? How about the two Heathers?

Was Kurt 3 years? Wow. I guess it shows how much Wally overshadowed him. Still, 3 years vs, 15 or so for Wally? I'd say Wally owns Ned.
ReplyDeleteThere were two Heathers, I believe, and maybe 2 Monicas- each lasted only a year. I'd say 5+ years equals long term- call it the Sarah Brown Minimum.
Interestingly enough Sean Kanan was originally on from 93-97 and Billy Warlock 97-03.
ReplyDeleteSean cast with SB was definitely a better brother match, in the looks department.
Yes, BW did AJ longest but SK's the best. He's really grown in a way I doubt BW's AJ could.

ReplyDeleteTomas/Alcazar is on his way to GH soon. Story is that Sky wil be terrified that Tomas is Alcazar. Remember she helped Jason gain the opportunity to kill him. Lucy Coe back in mid december will be fun! Is Sabrina Lucy's daughter?
ReplyDeleteDidn't Scotty and Lucy Coe have a daughter named Sabrina???
ReplyDeleteNo, their daughter was Serina.
