Soaps on a Rope: Stars Tweet about Cancellations.

Nancy Lee Grahn: been sitting here since morning & still cant think of anything profound 2 say about loss of daytime heirlooms. guess ill just keep drinking

Jason Cook: wow. both? Sry to the cast and crews of both shows...many talented friends there.

Fiona Hutchison: says, "I cannot begin to tell all of you how deeply saddened I am to know that All My Children and One Life to..

Rob Raines: To all my colleagues of AMC and OLTL. On to the next adventure. From one who has found life to be just fine after GL. I do miss GL though.

Catherine Hickland: Because every show Brian Frons touches, dies, does that make him a serial killer?

Melissa Archer: Thank you all of you for your kind words. Show is still goin for now & we r gonna make it rock till the end!!

Hillary B Smith: Okay guys! We still have so much 2 b grateful 4. Like all of u. Sp many amazing tweets. Thank you all of u!!!!

Steve Burton: Wow. So sad our daytime family is getting smaller. Hang in there all!! You know we appreciate you (then he advertised his CD and Cookbook ;/)

Lisa LoCicero: In shock. Having lunch with husband as AMC cast was filtering in one by one.. I assumed it was a fan event..

at 9:34est NANCY Lee Grahn did a soap toast to us all:
1st toast; Soap fans are the f'in best fans on this planet! Clink

These are from press releases:

Kelly Ripa: "This is like losing a member of your family. 'All My Children' was more than a job -- it was my family. It was there that I met my husband; it was there when my first two children were born; it was there where I met many of my life-long friends. It was the greatest training ground ever. I feel heart sick."

Susan Lucci: "It's been a fantastic journey," said Lucci of her 41 years on the show. "I've loved playing Erica Kane and working with [show creator] Agnes Nixon and all the incredible people involved with 'All My Children.' I'm looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities.

Kirstie Alley: "Maybe OWN could take on rhe soaps u love so much.. they need that kind of programming

Adrienne Barbeau: An American art form is disappearing. What a sad day for casts, crews, staff & most of all the fans of #AMC & #OLTL. No art replaces them.

Martha Byrne: Very sad news about OLTL and AMC. It's a huge loss for so many people. Thinking about the cast, crew and fans.
I also encourage you to call Robin Strasser's hotline--she has a message for fans. It's pretty raw and candid. Robin certainly isn't as upbeat as LaLucci is--at all. She talks about 800-900 people losing jobs and what if that was a plant closing down? Wouldn't there be outrage? It's showbiz. Number to call: 212-414-5300 (this may be a toll charge if you are out of the area)

one more thing: Jetito wrote to me:
@WubsNet The only unscripted show I'm interested in seeing on ABC Daytime is "Brian Frons Falls Down Lots of Stairs."
AMEN.

A lot of people have asked me what we can do to save the shows...I'm just not sure it's possible. Not on ABC anyway. There are press kits out there for the replacement shows already. Affiliates were told and the shows "The Chew" and "The Revolution" have casts, hosts etc. Other affiliates didn't have the same thing on NBC when ATWT went-- they could program whatever in that time slot.  This was planned for a long time...

GO TAKE A GANDER AT THE RATINGS ON Soap Opera Network!! OLTL is kicking ass.. look at the 12-17 demos!! NOT that it matters.

  1. GH lost at least 100 000 viewers and fell to 4th place below OLTL. GH will lose a lot more. I don't think you can save the soaps to this network as they don't actually listen to viewers. I could see these soaps picked up by another network if writing improved. I would even watch an evening soap.I'm sad for the actors because it is a very competitive world to get acting jobs. The other option is for them to create and launch a new soap featuring these actors. I would definately watch that. I think people will have to be creative.

  2. Under Frons' leadership every daytime drama has hit new lows. OLTL and AMC had a combined total of almost 84 yrs on TV. SAD.
LOL, The CHEW ( , the revolution ( fashion health lifestyle ). We are saturated with these topics all day! We have Rachel ray ( food lifestyle ), The Doctors, Dr. Oz, the view, the talk, Dr. Phil. I'm sick of pschoanalysis, lifestyle coaching and fashion and food I cannot afford. I would like to be entertained!i WOULD LIKE TO HAVE AN HOUR TO ESCAPE REALITY! Does anybody have the same feelings ?

  3. Karen, I read Frons statement /interview on wrap tv and it was really bad. He said there is no way that the fans can convince ABC to keep these soaps and that it's done. When asked if GH will stay on, he said if they hold ratings . Good ratings is some mathematical formula of cost and revenue. GH doesn't have a hope in hell.

  4. If they wanted to cancel the soaps to save money, the very LEAST they could do, would be to re-air them from the beginning (which would be free or at least minimal in charge) and let the fans have their daytime soaps filled with nostalgia and memories. Those two soaps were on for nearly a lifetime, I'm sure the fans would rather have something, than nothing all together.

  5. tv.msn.com : Abc president on soaps' cancellation "The Strongest Will Survive ". Read Frons' interview. This made me angry , especially when they asked him about fans lobbying to keep both shows.

  7. Karen, I actually caught an old interview March 11, 2011 with Jackie Zeman interviewed by Dan Kroll. Near the end he asks her why the storylines or characters that fans want to see aren't happening. She said that TPTB have friends and people that they want to see more of so these people get seen. She also said they ask focus groups questions about storyline or characters but the questions aren't good. The questions are leading to who ABC higher ups may want to see. Also has to do with budget or how much certain actors get paid ( some get more pay and have to be on x number of days ). they also asked her about GH revisiting BJ storyline etc.

  8. By the way, both Steve Burton and Derk Cheetwood took the OPPORTUNITY to schlep their damn cookbook while professing sorrow over AMC and OLTL's cancellations. In fact, Cheetwood was more blatant saying something to the effect of "Hey, with these shows going off the air, the cookbook is something you'll really want to get!". Some fans called him out on it (one calling him a "douchebag") and he later deleted the tweet.

  9. There have been over 1100 post on Oprah.com asking her to pick up both soaps for her new station "Own". Her web page has literaly been full of viewers asking for her help. Also if you read the interview with Frons, there were 88 comments and not one of them was good. Doesn't Frons have a boss????

  10. I am so tired to TPTB pushing there own agenda. GH is never going to get better because Guza is pushing his own agenda as well. I am heartbroken to see OLTL and AMC go. I have grown up with these shows, and it was always something to look forward to at the end of the day. Unfortunately, I have lost hope for GH as well. Until they start actually paying attention to what long time viewers are looking for...I see no changes being made. People could care less about the mob stories. I am sick of all these newbies getting contracts while long time vets and favorites get pushed out! I can't bear to watch Wht GH has turned into. I fear its days are numbered. These higher ups are pushing their own agendas. Frons and Guza are the worst! OLTL should have been saved! I am pretty much done with the ABC network. There is only 2 Shows I ever bother with on their network. Greys and Desperate Housewives...when they are gone, I will not watch much else as all their new show have not been that great.

  11. I really REALLY don't think Oprah will buy AMC...even IF ABC released the rights to it . THAT'S A HUGE IF. They own ALL rights to characters, merchandising etc. She'd have t pay a billion dollars. I'm just saying I don't think it's ever going to happen. Oprah can make miracles happen--maybe she'll develop her own soap. With a lot of good out of work actors.

  12. GH is next. the show has been slowly dying over the last few years. killing off vets and firing fan favorites and only focusing on the mob and newbies, the show does not stand a chance.

  13. Anyone else find it ironic that the day of the big announcement the ratings come out and OLTL is kicking GH's butt? Frons says GH will remain as long as they keep their ratings...what ratings? Their ratings already suck!

  14. I don't want to come off as some vengeful beast, but it sounds as though we have no chance of keeping AMC or OLTL and we all know GH is on the way out of the door, but I think our only recourse in the matter is to boycott the new shows when they come out and urge our friends and family to do the same. When ABC's entire daytime schedule reaches the big sewerage treatment plant in the sky, Frons will get the axe finally. While it won't bring our beloved stories back, Frons will be unemployed, and look at this move as the death knell of his carreer.

  15. So I guess the Emmys coming up AMC and OLTL will finally win huh?

  16. Steve Burton wrote an apology blog about what happened with Derk and the cookbook thing. I guess the marketing people messed that up and Steve and Derk fired them for it.http://archive.aweber.com/steveburtonfans/1Cqxk/h/A_personal_message_from_me_.htm
