RIP SOAPNET...nice to know ya!

AH THOSE were the days!!

Daytime Confidential one of my FAVE SITES got a little ringy-dingy from a certain HEAD OF ABC DAYTIME today (FRONS) to let them know that SoapNet is now DEAD in the water. Done. Guess what's going in it's place? READY? a 24 hour DISNEY channel. Brahahhhahaa. Don't know whether to laugh or cry. Frons is saying it's not changing the commitment" ABC has to OLTL, AMC and GH.  Whateverrrrr. So, I guess the new programming didn't work, the Soapnet talk shows didn't fly. I really liked to watch older soaps on there.
What do YOU think? Are you SO HAPPY to have a 24hr Disney? (is that for the kids that are up all night!!?)

  1. the article I read actually said they are committed to AMC and GH. Guess OLTL doesn't count anymore :(

I think Soapnet would have done a lot better if it stuck to soaps and soap specials. There was way too many random non-soap-related things on there for me!

  2. OMG, MRS V!! Did it just say those TWO???!! I read "ABC" soaps!! wow. that's not nice.
I didn't like soapnet lately either, and thought they should cover way more fan events and have a talk show like they used to.

  3. I liked Soapnet when it showed old episodes of GH, etc. My kids will be happy to have more Disney though!

  4. We don't get soapnet on our cable here in the middle of nowhere. I heard today on CNBC that it's rumored Disney is looking to sell ABC. The experts they interviewed believe it's highly likely to be true. I wonder what that means for ABC daytime if anything. Maybe the new owners won't appreciate Bob Guza. We can only hope.

  5. Isn't there already a 24 hour Disney channel? Called ... The Disney Channel? Is this the Disney-er Channel?

Once they stopped rerunning the old nighttime soaps like Dallas and Knots Landing, and started showing old Lifetime TV movies, it kind of lost its focus. Another nail in the nearly sealed coffin for soaps, it would appear.

  7. Still lovin on maxie's hair from yesterdays eppy. Even though I'm a Jolivia fan, I still see major chemistry with Maxie & Johnny. Lexie & Maurice killed those scenes together and I loved what lucky said to Nic about the betrayel and not even being sorry about it. I don't like that they are going to have Liz cave and live with Nik after she told EVERYONE she wouldn't.

As a former Liason fan, I have to say I am extremely disappointed that they didn't have even one scene where Liz finds out about Jason going to jail. History people! If Robin gets one, then surely Liz should since she has a son with him. Jason should have gone to see jake, Liz, Monica, etc. Bull crap on our screens. All about carly, sonny & Michael.

Kemo looked great on the DWTS finale. Oh and yay to my boy lee!

  9. Oh, no. No more Soapnet?? It is what I count on for soap recording. It eliminates all local interruptions. It's a great fallback if you're cable or power goes out. I'm bummed.

  10. i saw this last night on entertainment weekly's website. This is definitely not a good thing for soaps. I honestly do not think that we need yet another channel for the thumb-sucking bunch. We've already got Disney, Toon Disney, Nickelodeon, Sprout (which is 24 hours), PBS kids, and PBS during the day. When I was a kid, we had Nick Junior and Disney IF we had cable/satellite. I did not need a 24 hour channel; my mom would tape shows (like Under the Umbrella Tree) for me when i was in school and I could watch in when I got home, but most of the time I remember watching AMC, OLTL, and GH when I was little (pre-kindergarten). We watched what my parents had on or we didn't watch anything.

  11. This is upsetting. I loved soapnet. I watch DOOL every. morning. It is really sad that they are so eagerly letting a genre die. But we must kow tow to the teany-bopper. They are more influenced by comercials than we are and it is easier to sell an ad for shows that have that demographic.

  12. SoapNet was a treat when it focused on soaps. I hope they find a way to keep it
