General Hospital Going Primetime??

TV Guide is saying that a primetime GH may be in the works when Couric's show takes over. A bit like Telenovas. I'm skeptical but there it is.

One scenario being discussed has the drama continuing as a short-run prime-time summer series, similar to Spanish-language networks' telenovelas, says an ABC insider. Even if the cost of production doubled over the typical soap budget (around $200,000 per episode), a nighttime version of GH would still be inexpensive for an original scripted show.

  1. Whatever. Too little too late, I say. I don't know why they are trying so hard to save this show, but had no problem axing OLTL. Now if they brought all three soaps to primetime I would be all over it. However, GH has been crappy for a very, very long time and I don't see (unless a true miracle) how it can truly become "must see" again.

  2. Sounds like they're getting their "spin" in order. They can claim it's not canceled, just moving to a different format, and try to appease the masses. Then, like PP, it will never see the light of day. Sorry, but the real GH hasn't been on ABC in years.

  3. I'm glad I've got my boots on because there is alot of manure out here courtesy of the rat.

Telenova? GH in Spanish might make more sense and be more entertaining!

  4. Hey, sounds better than a cancellation (which seems inevitable). GH would make a great primetime show. Whatever it takes to stay on air. But , I believe RC may pack the punch it takes to keep the show going in it's current state. Or at least, I hope so...

  5. If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you. I guess ABC realizes that we won't believe them if they tell us that GH is going on line, so they are trying a different lie this time to get the fans to not riot.

How can we believe someone who has repeatedly lied to us so many times?

  6. Putting it on prime time would just be another way to excuse a rapid cancelation. Haven't the prime time specials in the past done poorly? I could be wrong about that. Either way, nothing lasts on prime time,so they could move it there, watch it fail and then have proven to all the fans it was awful and deserved to cancelled. What a way to repect their fan base!

That is the ABC schedule here in Oklahoma effective this summer. "General Hospital" will slowly evolve out of all of the affiliate's schedules until it surrenders to Couric in mid-September.
