Genie Francis to Recurring on GH

So it's true... Daytime Confidential reports that Genie has been bumped down to recurring and according to Jamey Giddens on twitter, she's "devastated".  We had a good story going, the Charles' Street thing was timely, had a number of cast members in it and Ned and Laura were headlining! So what does management do?
Pulls the plug by taking one of our most popular leading ladies and shelving her. For what? Why would you do this?? Are you that tone deaf?

What kills a soap? Decisions like this.  Now we get a "Spencer has broken legs" story and Genie essentially gone.

Good goin' guys. Great job.

  5. Sad they do this after they finally gave her a storyline. I was happy they gave her the race for mayor after the last few months of her stalking Valentin, which was very boring.

  6. I am really pissed, too. I was so enjoying her run for mayor. She is such a great actress, looks fabulous and is so beloved. For whatever reason, boo!

  8. I just realized that they just renewed MB’s contract and at the same time must have ended Genie’s. Coincidence? Always enough money for him.

  9. They really don't like mature women on this show. All they seem to be interested in in the male actors and their newbies.

Twitter needs to keep making noise and let them know how upset everyone is. If you're not on Titter open an account and complain. They listen to all the young ones who use twitter all the time. If you're in the states use the phone numbers and addresses in the Daytime Confidential comments and let them know how angry you are.

    1. God forbid THAT happen! Maybe we can make enough noise and they will reconsider? It happened yrs ago when they tried to let Rebecca Herbst go....

  11. SON OF B*****! Typical GH - just when you think they are improving and things are looking up and interesting, they screw over one of the best and most beloved of their cast members. Damn it - she is an actress that has gotten BETTER with age (compare her performances of Laura the last 15 years to when she was young back in the day and you can just see her abilities maturing) and this is a slap in the face. Disgusting. Screw MB and Sonny and SB and Jason for that matter - to hell with them and their full time contracts.

  12. Well,I was so happy when Luke retired and she came back, whose ever responsible for doing that to Laura should be fired

  13. WTH???? Why would they do that? Are they trying to lose viewers? Well if so, they are doing a good job of it. Let's get rid of other viewers...Oscar (sorry don't' like his story however I do like the character of Kim...put her with Julian), Aunt Stella, Amy. Just to name a few.
I love Genie Francis and love her with Kevin. GH - you are make a huge mistake.

  15. If you are letting Genie drop to recurring because of the duel Jason thing or for this Nelle crap story line...you are wasting your time. The mayor storyline with Genie was way more entertaining and the fact that we need Laura in Port Charles. She is general hospital-Finn naaaaa. Nelle naaaaa. Hell even the commissioner is a naaaa Spencer’s -quartermaines-cassidines. That’s port Charles

  16. I had read on Twitter earlier this week that 2 GH stars were leaving. Very said to see Genie is one of them. Her story was starting to pick up and was fun to watch. Looks like the Mob Squad is fully entrenched and in full control of show. Roger and Rebecca have hardly been on show the past 2 months. I wonder if one of them is next. One step forward 2 steps back is the GH moto.

  17. This seems weirdly timed with how Laura was playing a large role in the Mayor's race. This smells too much of backstage drama, in my opinion. Like the quote in Hamelet goes: "Something is rotten in Denmark".

  18. Maybe someone who hasn't been on much lately has been complaining about lack of screen time.

  19. Ugh! Just uggggghhhhh! I think I'm going to take a break from GH. This is just ridiculous. I don't want mob stuff, Nelle, Amy, Ava (love the actress but can't stand the character), the ongoing Jason/Sam/Drew story (has already gotten old to me). Genie/Laura is the total package, (actress and character). I felt bad enough about TC and Nicholas, but they topped that. This is worse!

  20. This makes absolutely ZERO FUCKING sense, and completely out of nowhere. Her relationship with Kevin, and now the upcoming mayoral race have been the best things in quite sometime.(The 2 Jasons stuff has been good, sure. But, those of us who've been watching much longer than 25 or so years, ((IMO at least)) it's been the storyline between Laura and Kevin, that means the most to) Watching them go from a chance encounter due to Laura putting a classified ad trying to find someone that could help break a code by Helena, growing closer, then falling in love and getting married, that means MUCH MUCH more for her. I honestly can't remember reading/hearing ANY negative about it, ANYWHERE. Something that is damn near unheard of these days. A few weeks ago, shortly after the wedding, SOD did a fantastic several page interview with Genie and Jon, about how much they're enjoying working together now, and are excited about future possibilities, and so on. For anyone who hasn't read it, it's worth finding, and reading it. (It also goes to show just mind boggling this situation is.

(And remember RPW was dropped to recurring several months ago, and hasn't been seen AT ALL since it was announced)

  21. WELL K, THANKS SOOOO MUCH for using the F bomb, it expresses PERFECTLY how I am feeling (and probably how we all are feeling). I am shocked, upset, and depressed. It must have happened suddenly, as Laura was running for mayor! I've never done this before, but I am going to call the numbers given here, email, etc., we need a strategy and united campaign to get Genie back. She IS GH!! WE LOVE HER!! Laura and Kevin are a DREAM COME TRUE, HOW DARE THEY DO THIS TO US? We are loyal fans, watching for decades, slap in the face for Genie, and for us! Can anyone here reach out to Genie and tell her that we will fight for her? It worked for Becky, it can work for her!!

  22. I generally try to censor my language, just as a common courtesy to others. This time, is different though. I'm pretty certain EVERYONE here feels the same way. Since first reading the news, I've been trying to just comprehend it, more than anything else. And I'm no closer than then. You're right though, we have to figure SOMETHING out that would actually work. Though, I'm not sure if what worked for Becky then, would do the same thing today, for a few reasons. One of the biggest being that TPTB then, and now, are entirely different. From who is heading up Daytime stuff for ABC, down to those controlling the purse strings, and who has creative control. Not to mention, the size of the industry was MUCH larger than things are today. If someone then told me then, that by now, I wouldn't be able to watch the Daytime Emmys on TV anymore, and MAYBE it COULD be online (which is by no means guaranteed.), and if it IS available that way, the quality is so awful and hard to see. I'd have thought that person was just nuts. As I've said a few times in the past, I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to social media, and haven't had much desire to, just from what I hear/see/read about it.

  23. Although I am sure that nobody at GH cares whether or not I watch, but I am gone. I won't stand for the disrespect shown a venerable actress. Additionally, TPTB have no regard for the fans of this show. Sooooooo, they can kiss my ________ (you can fill in whichever body part you choose).

  24. They obviously don't want a matriarch on the show, just a god father. And a mature beautiful woman is seen as someone you slip in a few times a year to keep old fans happy. TPTB now just want clowns and young men who can take their shirts off and parade around the set. Misogyny is alive and well on GH.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Genie Francis has elegantly embraced the role of the matriarchal glue holding the show together. We lost Lila. We lost Tracy. They too were beloved, strong, elegant women with history and strong ties to many of the characters. Just like Genie, they lit up the screen whenever they were in a scene. Now this? What are TPTB thinking? To put such a beloved, strong, multi dimensional character on the back burner is simply so out of touch with what the viewers want. Personally, I was so thrilled to see Genie finally getting a good story line that showcased her acting abilities and incorporated her character's rich history. I had a reason to watch GH before anything else DVR'd that day. I'd love to see GH continue for many more years but I don't see how it will if they make moves like this.

  26. I'm sure I'm going to get attacked on this, but Genie was totally disrespected due to budgetary loyalties to other actors and some who are not fan favorites. Why ABC has chosen this path is beyond comprehension. Tyler Christopher,
Tristan Rogers, Ian Buchanan and Jason Patrick all were treated in a disrespectful fashion as well. All above are fan favorites and were let go to keep the Mob Squad story alive. Now Genie is a casualty because of poor judgement and loyalty to others not because of misogyny. Watch Roger get let go next. He's not part of the gang. His story with Rebecca rarely gets screen time now. The folks making these decisions of who stays or goes don't give a crap about fan feelings. Boycott the show. Teach them a lesson. Hit them where it hurts.Thats how we should respond.

  27. IS GH TRYING TO GET CANCELLED?? This is definitely a DUMB move on their part!

  28. I'm hoping Genie makes a statement but maybe Hallmark is part of ABC/Disney? Ergo?? Hmmm. People are making noise that's for sure!!

** This unfortunately is pretty much how it is all across the board with the remaining soaps. GH is just the worst, unfortunately. Several months ago there was a VERY well done article in SOD that went into some detail, about the the way stuff is being done today, in comparison to years past. (All interviewed participants werei given complete anonymity) It was VERY informative in giving viewers a better idea as to how/why things are they are today. The one problem with boycotting (with the state of the soap industry today) it's a double edged sword. And could VERY easily get a show canceled.

** I hope so too. ABC needs to realize, they've REALLY stepped in it, with this. It just boggles my mind, soaps primary audience is women. More and more so, older more mature viewers. Yet, the actresses are treated like dirt, and get worse treatment the more time goes on.

Sunday Surgery: Rude Awakening

Such a frustrating week for me!! GH can be so good, then so uneven and just plain plodding along that it baffles the mind. I felt like Thu...
