BIG WEEK in SoapLand!!

This week finds us with the last ever All My Children on network TV. I will try to contain my grief. It's not everyday a girl finds a soap she's watched from DAY ONE dissolve into oblivion. Ok, into CyberSpace.  Watch for VINTAGE AMC here for the next 5 days. Indulge me!

Palmer and  Cynthia Cortlandt!
Did you know this??
Cynthia Preston -- All My Children
Portrayed by
: Jane Elliot (1984-86)
Family: Andrew Preston Cortlandt (Son)
Marriages: Ross Chandler; Palmer Cortlandt

Genie Francis was also on AMC as con artist and incest victim Ceara Connor Hunter from 1990 to 1992!

My fave story on AMC was Jesse, Angie, Greg and Jenny. Awesome TV at the time, and just right for my age!! I also loved Nina and wanted her hair. She was the only one I knew with a nose as tiny as mine. LOL

Palmer and Nina... 1979.

Enough for today!!! I'm sure I'll find more pics I want to display during the week. End of a long, long era...boo to the Chew and Frons and Sweeney and everyone else that helped hasten it's death!

  1. Ahhhh... NINA! Loved her with Cliff! I remember she cut her hair into a dorothy hamil bob and I was sad. lol. Also loved Greg & Jenny along with Angie & Jesse. Sad to see this show go off the air even though I haven't watched in 10 years.

  2. I was about 7 when the Jenny & Greg storyline ran. I was completely obsessed because my name is Jennifer & and I was already a romantic at such a young age. My oldest son is named Greg. Husband doesn't realize our son's name really came from a soap! shhhh! I miss those days of watching AMC with my mom while she folded laundry. Sadly, now I won't get to share that with my daughter unless I'm watching GH and there aren't alot of great female role models there. :(

  3. I also loved the Jenny, Greg, Jesse, and Angie storyline. Nina and Cliff were great. My friend and I wandered all over the campus to find an available tv in a common room of a dorm to watch Cliff and Nina's wedding. Those were the dark ages when students actually went to college without cars, tvs, computers, and gasp...cell phones! lol (Some people had to borrow typewriters.)

The two of us also went to see James Mitchell and Taylor Miller at a mall appearance. At another appearance we saw Gillian Spencer and Peter Bergman. This was in the early 80s and I will tell you Gillian Spencer was absolutely luminous. The camera did not do her justice..she was beautiful. Peter Bergman has aged very nicely.

  4. Cynthia Preston was rotten to the core. Fun character to hate though. Thanks for throwing AMC a little extra Wubbin this week. Besides Anna and Skye, were there any other GH/AMC crossovers?

  5. I also watched AMC during much of my college years. When I got my first "real" job, I would go to the breakroom at lunch because I LOVED Greg, Jenny, Jessie and Angie. I also loved Nina and Cliff and loved to hate Palmer. Back then, if you missed an episode...tough luck-that was it. There was no cable or VCRs or DVD players or SoapNet or YouTube. How did we ever get by?? LOL! Oh, and Friday cliffhangers!!

I remember my mom liked OLTL during the Nicki/Vicki years and in the summer she and I would both watch while
ironing and folding the laundry (much like JPink just
    described).

*sigh* I mourn the loss of those simple times in many ways. And I feel such a sense of loss for all the soaps. My best to all the out-of-work actors, crew and many others behind the scenes who we never hear about but who are also out of a job.

  9. I got all teary eyed as I read the previous posts. Because I identified with them all...I loved Greg and Jenny...Angie and Jessie...Nina and Cliff...and of course Tad the Cad....Such great memories of this show, take me back to a past that I remember with such fondness...I am really going to miss this show....and I feel sorry for the kids growing up that will miss out on having this same experience that we did.

  11. Bren,

I tell you what we used to do before vcrs...desperate times required desperate measures. LOL When an episode was considered "can't miss" we would rig up a tape recorder on a clunky timer and keep the tv going so we could at leas have audio.

Those were back in the AMC days when Kelly had narcolepsy.

There are truly no fans like soap fans.

  12. This is going to be a very soggy week, watched this show from the first day, on our local station, the weather lady, Tracy Butler, love her, she loves soaps, has been on AMC once, played nurse #2!
she started telling how as a little girl she watched AMC with her grandmother and what a special time that was for her, she started to cry a bit, and that got me started, then thought about all those grandmas and grandkids who will never get to do that! my granmother left a lot to be desired, but I do remember listening to soaps with her on the radio...and then all this great stuff they are doing, all these happy endings, oh my gosh, thats whats hard, the happy endings...I looked like Rudolph by the end today....
all the stuff you are remembering, the heart of the show...all our good memories....thanks

  15. I haven't watched AMC in years, but I grew up watching and these pics brought back so many memories! This was a great show, I will have to tune in for the end. My middle name is Tara and while my mom won't admit that it's after Tara Martin.. I know the first time she heard the name was on AMC!

  16. I was in middle & high school during the Jenny/Greg/Angie/Jesse days & the Cliff/Nina storyline. They were great. I could only watch during the summer back then, but loved it. Eventually quit watching as my mom watched Days & started recording that when we did get a VCR.

  17. Love4Dogs...that is so funny!! How clever!

More than once I skipped a class or called in sick to work in order to watch an "important" episode. LOL! I remember feeling guilty until the show came on and then if it was a really good show I would rationalize that it was worth it.

    What a little sneak I was! :-)
