Sunday Surgery: Hells A Poppin'

 

CAUTION/WARNING PG 13 WHATEVER:  This blog will be brutal and my commentary not for the faint of heart. You know when I love the show, I gush..and when things are going south, I'm going to tell it straight. 
So, you have the choice to stay or GO-GO.

PS Hells A Poppin' was my name on Soap Zone years ago. If you were there, you know what kind of a place it was!! I decided to name the blog after my old self today because I'm going to be as candid as I was there, here. 

Giddy Up!! 

I saw this post from Soap Central  and I decided to start with this because it proves my point. Sometimes, GH just edits and writes and makes choices that defy logic. And I say that as an avid soap watcher. Case in point: Jason running into GH  Wednesday after the big ol' crash Monday only to....talk to Lucas about Liz? LOL come on now, why would he ask about the mother of his child who's just been in a horrible crash? Nah. HE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT CARLY AND BRENNAN. This happened after scenes with Jason and Sonny going to Toronto to get information from the hired hitman. Why was he so hot about Carly? Then it hit me-- he had talked to Valentin at the PCPD awhile ago about Brennan and the WSB. THAT'S what that was about!! Did it happen right after those scenes? Nah.. it happened after his trip, a car crash and the stand alone episode on Tuesday which further just fk'd things up. It made NO SENSE. Carly might be in danger but--she's like 50, has been involved with a million mob men and Jason running to her little brother (that he's never talked to much) was insane. Phew. That rant over. 

Let's discuss the Stand Alone "Dedication" episode, shall we? This aired April 1st, on GH's 62nd birthday. We, the audience already know Leslie C has passed. The episode was probably all  written and ready to go so they had her too ill to come. I don't have an issue with that. I don't have an issue with the beautiful new set either. What I DO have an issue with is not ONE Monica flashback. NOT ONE! You could have opened with her working at the hospital or one of the many references other characters were making about her. Nope--we get a flashback of Lucy's Nurses Ball dresses which we've already seen many many times. Also I want to point out the Sonny worship in this "Monica" episode. Sonny had scenes with Laura, Carly, Alexis and Anna. Anna even KISSED him 'from Robin'. Sonny ended up being the 'anonymous' donor for the whole damn wing. Why not Leslie or Jason or or or? OF COURSE it was Sonny. Everyone lined up to remind him how good he is at heart and it just makes me cringe. He was actually more at the heart of the show than Monica at one point. Also, the whole thing was very dry and dull. So disappointing. 

Speaking of DULL.. could it have been anymore boring at the end of the week? WHY DO YOU HAVE a big car-crash Monday and then no follow up until Friday? How is that in anyway exciting? Also, if I have to watch Lucky be all morose with Liz for months I'm going to scream. Ric remembers seeing Kristina in the mist, Lucky knows she did it and Ava had the mechanic tell her the brake lines were cut. How long before Krissy gets out of this or is deemed 'mentally unfit" or something? I give it 2 weeks. 

My ONE intrigue and the ONE Great scene this week was with Emma Drake. Damn but yep, I was wrong about her character make-over. I think she's brilliant now and I also think she's pulling her weight as Anna's granddaughter. When they talk about her reason for chaining herself to the crypt, the past comes up and it was just written perfectly. I liked Tracy standing up for her as well. Even Gio is good around her. The last good thing about this is she had to sign an NDA for the last time she was arrested. Is she WSB? Was the university experimenting on aliens? What!!? I tell you, I believe her being an undercover something rather than Josslyn, that's for sure.

Josslyn and Dull Bland Blonde Boy: WHY. WHY WHY WHY. It's not even in the least organic. They are literally away from everyone else doing some sort of half-ass'd training and UGH. Sorry but the character of "Vaughn" is just so DULL and he's so BASIC. Not a charm to be found. Even the "Test" set up was a clunker. (How did you like Brando's Garage in that scene?!) Now Joss is "in the field"... and he has to go with her. Cripes. 

I've tried. Seriously, I have but this is another isolated couple that just doesn't do anything for me. The operation thing? Don't care. Also, Kai said he has parents but we never saw them. His only interesting thing is his friend and he hasn't been on in awhile. Thank goodness Lucy interrupted them Friday because zzzzzzz. 

Sidwell is shaping up to be a good pick I think. The actor is top-notch and really makes every scene he's in pop. (kind of like Charles Measure used to :sobbing:) We knew Marco would be Natalia's son because she posted on IG.  We also knew he was probably Jenz son because GH posted a still photo of him at Wyndemere weeks ago. I'm still waiting for Sidwell to be a Cassadine cousin. OH! And how funny was Marco finding a photo of Sam and LUCAS on Alexis' desk? Pfffffft. Um, What? Did Lucas like give that to her? I mean I know they did it to have him realize Lucas was in town but-- still funny. 

EWW and ICK 

The fact that neither Sonny nor Carly know that Sasha is carrying Michael's baby makes this story as boring as they come. So...yep. That's the post. 

OTHER STUFF THAT HAPPENED: 

God unfortunately had to listen to Kristina wail in the chapel about her part in the accident

The  blackmailing of Portia and tit for tat is just turning into another quagmire. 

Marcus texted Lucas for a meet up

Sasha told Sidwell she "had a limit" when it comes to taking money 

Drew and Curtis argued forever about Kai and life and Aurora

Jordan has to convince people to perform at the Nurses' Ball 

Laura really thinks people are being stupid about her relationship with mob-man Sonny 

Kevin is at 'a conference' in Maryland (giggle) 

MUSINGS:  I'm still stunned that the Gio secret didn't come out with Grandma Travolta was on set. What in the hell are you waiting for? This has gone on seemingly FOR-EVER.  Molly and Cody continue to be chem tested but without TJ around or even a mention of him and it's so forced. It's like TJ fell off a cliff and there's Cody to pick Molly up only TJ IS STILL ALIVE and we sure haven't been told he left Port Charles. Mac Daddy needs more scenes. Stella and Tracy need more scenes. Carly and Brennan DO NOT need more scenes. Also: They should have wheeled Liz down to the dedication even with a broken leg and since Sonny made it back from Toronto in time, Jason should have been there as well. 

SO!! That's that!! I swear this show just kills me. I love it and the actors are amazing but -- man oh man, some weeks are just dead. The timing and sequencing was just never thought about at all. Friday's show should have been Wed, right after the crash and Monica interruptus. Wed/Thursday shows were just pure filling. 

Hope you have a good week. I am in the 2 year old room from 9-1:30 Mon-Thursday filling in for someone. ERGO, I don't think I'll make many live shows. Dave and Sonya will be filling in for blog shells and summaries. I'll catch what I can on Hulu.
