Can we take a minute to say how great the tribute episode for Anthony Geary was on Friday before I jump into things? It just hit all the right notes for me. As someone that watched Tony and Genie back in the day, I just really loved it. Now yes, I wish Finola was there but she wasn't. They made it work. Loved that they included Elizabeth as well. She was the Lucky years connection we needed imo.
OK! On to the week that was!! Keys! KEYS! More KEYS!! Here we go...
Grab the key to your Sunday Morning appetite and let's GO GO!
Note: special thx to Sloan (SloanRush3/Twitter) for suppling my blog with the great photos!
POLITICAL FODDER: I'm torn on this, people. I get enough politics in real life to not really want it in my soap. I mean, we all know they aren't going to "go there" with anything, so it's kind of just filler. Laura asking Alexis to take Drew's seat temporarily was only fun if you know NLG's postings and stance in real life. To have Alexis say "I'm not really political" had me howling. I can just see the writers grinning during that one!! Leaving all of her many MANY crimes aside, she would be a good fit and you know she'd be sitting next to AOC as much as possible. On to Willow. Yes, it's been done in the past where the spouse fills the seat (I just watched Mr. Willis of Ohio on West Wing) but.. come on. WILLOW? She just went to Liz and cried about having to resign because of her kids. She's not putting Drew in a home because she wouldn't be able to inject him at will. So... where you taking him when congress is in session? Leaving him in the car? Running out on lunch breaks? Hahahaaha. I know, I know...Drew never even went to DC in his tenure so she wouldn't either. So many holes in all of this and I think it would have been better to just drop the whole thing. You'd think Sidwell would push for Erza to get in there. Then Ezra could just pop in and out from DC to cause trouble now and again.
LATHAN: Before I get into the Maxie thing, I am going to mention again how I don't believe they built up enough emotional power to have us care about the Lulu and Nathan 'connection'. We are still on our toes checking for any weirdness in the guy that has been dead for 7 years to really be paying attention with these two. I don't want to see Lulu's furrowed brow every other day either. The meeting at the non-existent Nathan grave was soap 101 and ergo, a bit expected.
MAXIE'S PARTY: Well, anything that Mac is at, gives me a thrill. Cute family scene. Kirsten looks fabulous and healthy. Spinelli looked dapper and I'm so hoping he's the Duckie that gets the girl. I even liked the inclusion of Cody because that brings in James' fun stuff about the horses. Family time is always a welcome thing on my part so I wouldn't mind weekly Sunday dinners for these people.
THE KEY!! Yes, I'm going to talk about it! Willow put Drew's key on Michael's key chain awhile ago and then let nature take it's course. Chase discovered that he did have one that fit the front door and wormed his way around to mentioning it to Nathan in an off-handed manner. Why the hell Michael would still have a key on there months after all of this is ridiculous but there it is. So... yep, they tested the ring, and sure enough it was a 'smoking gun'. Although no one really believed it (even the PCPD was a bit baffled), Ric got lucky when cute ol' Wiley told him Chase had those keys at one point. IS THERE ANYTHING BETTER THAN RIC strolling into the interview room with that smile on his face? NOPE!! Oh I adore Rick Hearst!! We are going to get at least one Michael to Chase punch out of this so I'm here for it.
THE BLINKS: Drew tried hard. Alexis suspected something but no dice. She could have just asked said something along the lines of "I know Willow shot you" just to get a rise out of him but no. Willow doses him up again and BLOOP! See ya later!! She's just turned into a delicious psychopath, hasn't she? Most of them hint at their deception in the 'off' scenes but dang, Willow just has a duplicity that takes the cake.
I WANT TO LIKE THIS BUT.... Three great actors. Snappy dialog and yet.. falls flat. Why the hell isn't Sidwell pulling Ava into a giant stolen art resell ring?? I think this was last week but I wanted to mention it for a few reasons. With Finola absent and other upheaval going on, Maura needs a way more expansive role on set. Also: Ric and Ava are just A PERFECT FIT!! Who else sees that? Plus, the Sonny connection! It's a WIN WIN!
DR O and The SPIN: One of my fave little scenes last week was with Bradford and Kathleen. They just play off each other so damn well. She's all twinkling about Maxie and her Nathan and he's sweating bullets about his chances with her. Just a light, nice scene and I really enjoyed it. Loved she ordered schnapps! Note: Big thanks to @CanadianFuzzy (Bluesky) for the photo
KUDOS: Just putting out there that this kid has grown before our eyes and so has his acting. Wiley and James need adventures together ASAP!
It wasn't a smooth week for me and next week looks just as choppy!! My only day out should be Tuesday (dentist) so I'm hoping to at least get some good watching in there. I'm finding myself looking to the sets more and more (I do that when I'm bored) so let's hope the pace picks up. Notice I didn't even mention Bookworm Cody in all of this. Damn.. I really like Molly and him together but the dance is just dull. I'm also calling out Kristina. Ooff. There's a character in need of something--anything. Jacinda/Michael/Krissy triangle would be delicious but she needs way more to do in life than go to yoga and dish out advice. The Wyndemere Project is moving too slow and I'm sure some of it has to do with the ever revolving cast door that's happening. It's just way too boring now and when you keep someone like Valentin locked up, it's time to get going.
That's all I have!! You know I could just go on and on and play armchair writer all day but you have things to do. I hope you enjoyed Friday's tribute as much as I did. It's those moments that unite us as a fan base--especially those of us that have been around for years.
Have a great Sunday!
CHEERS!
PS. We need an Outback and Fizz adventure! Maybe with James and Wiley!!?
