It was quite a week and part of me just wants to talk about the Monica parts. We will go over a lot so get some EXPENSIVE coffee or switch to tea and let's GO GO !!
By the end of the week, I swear the writers had been listening into our little quirky grievances and addressed some of them: Charlotte says she's too old to call her father "Papa"....Lucas asked Britt if she had "Undead Insurance" ...Liz was like: Um you're alive so that photo on the wall? NO and TERRY Showed up!! Ned was by his mother's side and although the timeline of night day/kids at school not at school was weird, I chose to ignore it. Well, except for truant Donna who was at her family BBQ during the day but hey! It was actually kind of funny and Sonny put up big bucks for Outback so: accepted.
OUTBACK SAGA: Solved!! She ran to the stables where she probably smelled Cody's food all over the place! Poor Cody so wanted to keep her but in the end, was a good guy. Nice Molly/Cody scenes and the beagle? WHO'S REAL NAME IS BAILEY ... (cute) just stole the show. I still think she could have been in Dalton's lab but that's just me.
THE BRITT FACTOR: Oh, she's back and as mouthy as ever, no? Wow...it's the old Britt. NOT the one that got that birthday party before she "died". Some people can't stand it. Me? You know me, I like the baddies and the obnoxious when done right and so far she's entertaining me. Carly finding out she was alive and NO ONE TOLD her was hysterical. Pfffffft. OMG she literally reacted like a 5 year old. Kudos to Laura Wright for playing that up. The Huntington's Disease came up with Lucas and I believe it might be safe to assume it was a false diagnosis. We shall see. Britt's going to work in the lowly position of ER check in and that should be great. I just wish she and Brad were relegated to the morgue together or something!
DREW IS STILL A *UNT: I'm using that in the British sense here so don't get all up in arms, ok? (It's a thing there and not at all what it is here. Kinda) Anway, Danny goes in to reason with him and say: Can I see Scout? Technically I can because my Dad has been out of town and I haven't been served but...I came to you instead. Drew? Hey kid, Buzz Off!!! Then? The real reason Danny was there...so he could hear Elizabeth when she called Jake about Monica.
THE TRUCK CRASH: Interesting that Lulu finds a car off of Rt 31 (I live here so I'm saying that's where that was). The guy's face is in the airbag and Chase doesn't see him either. It's only when he's taken to GH and Lucas sees him that the shock hits. Anna and Dante are both stunned as well. BUT TELL ME-- HOW did they know THAT UP THERE was Nathan!! LOL. I mean, come on now. I had to chuckle a little bit!! Dr O is going to have to get her smacking hand ready for this. Geesh. 2 kids within a week? Lordy.
MONICA: Oh man. It's one thing when a character passes but when it's coupled with a real life loss, it's just a whole other level. We've had so many people leave us from GH it's just hard to process. I know the writers waited awhile to tell this story and I'm not mad with that. Now we just have to sit and watch everything unfold one tear at a time.
If you haven't watched yet, please go to Hulu or ABC.com or find some pirate streams. It starts at the end of Wednesday's show when Jason comes down and tells Tracey he found Monica. We had just 'seen' the kids go up when they went off to school and they were talking about Monica and everything seemed good. That's how it happens sometime in our lives (I know this) and it's just shocking. The looks on both Tracey and Jason's faces were harrowing.
I'm going to talk about Steve Burton a bit here because we all know what Jane Elliot can do and we will get to her a bit later. Burton just blew me away. I swear when he's given the material, he just acts his heart out. Jason isn't my fave character but over the years he has evolved into something that's multi-dimensional. Steve had so many good scenes with Jane, Rory and Asher, it was amazing. His bright blue eyes swamped with tears also helped. He seemed so genuinely upset and probably was. He and Jane had been with Leslie a long, long time. We forget how young he was when he started GH as well. He 'grew up' with her.
When Ned showed up at the Qs I was so happy. A moment with Ned, Brook and Tracey was so special, I didn't miss Olivia being there. Wally Kurth and Jane hit the right notes and so did Amanda. No mention of Ned the "tennis pro" at the Spa but those of us that remember had a little chuckle when he said "I know Monica". LOL. The kicker came when Michael showed up and Tracey said Monica basically loved Michael the best and 'all of this should go to him'. Um, what now? Interesting. Did they talk about it in their tea sessions? Is everything going to Michael? If so, it could be soapy.
MOMENTS:
The flashbacks used were so good. Tracey and Monica fighting over a chair at Christmas. Tracey telling Jason about how Monica went to him when he was sick and accepted him as Alan's son. I'm sure there will be more to come so get those hankies ready.
Jason in the Gatehouse gutted me. He's sobbing on the couch and Danny walks in. The use of the gatehouse as a set was brilliant. If you watched back in the day, so much happened there. It doesn't look the same (at all) but it was a memory worth revisiting.
Ned telling Tracey he loved her. Always loved her and he's glad she's his mother. SOB. "Life's too short not to say it" ...
MINOR THINGS:
Lulu is going to let Charlotte go visit Valentin but she's not sure she wants to.
Rocco also isn't sure he wants to see his undead surrogate host.
Yes, Britt keeps calling him Ben.
Vaughn and Joss had zex in the Bondi Beach cabin and then vowed to 'not see each other anymore' (HAHAHA....'mkay)
Marco found out Judge Judy--I mean Heron was killed by his father. Sidwell blames Marco. Fog was involved on the docks.
Laura is back (Genie had a summer break) and got all caught up on the Drew shooting in a narrative given by Anna and Dante.
Gio and Emma Kissed
Ric is still down in the basement. (RH must be on a break lol)
COMING UP:
The whole town finding out about Monica and then the funeral. I think it might start the 25th so get ready. I'm working all next week but I'll get here one way or another for sure. Erika Slezak is due to come as well. I saw a photo of her with NLG on IG.
Questions: How many of the cast could they have at one time for the funeral? Remember EVERYONE knew Monica but I don't think they could have everyone in that 'church'. Hmmm... Maybe she had a Will that will need to be "read"?? I'm hoping most of the kids are there but it is school time and those things take awhile to film. I'm giving grace here because of logistics and production.
That's where I end this. I could have written reams more but you get the point. It's a good time to watch the show if you can and appreciate the history involved. I can't believe that Chris, Leslie, Tristan and Denise all left us within a short time span. I think of Genie for sure. Hope you had a good week and thanks for reading.
CHEERS
So, is Genie Francis now the longest running cast mate, or is Jane Elliot? I think Genie arrived right before Kin, but the same year????? I know all 3 have come and gone over the years, but they still count. Genie and Kin started 1977 and Jane started 1978. So now Genie is the longest I think. Just looked it up. Genie is my #1 favorite on GH. I think I started watching in 1977 with the David Hamilton story. Boy was the show good back then.
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen for everything you do for this blog. You are always much appreciated.
Steve Burton and Jane Elliot worked very closely with Leslie C. all those years. Those tears and grief are very real.
It's hard to believe so many "GH" stalwarts have passed away recently. It's like the end of an era. You're right, poor Genie must be devastated.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate that they actually used some flashback footage, which I understand can be expensive. It adds a whole other level to the proceedings.
I think the car accident was a set-up to get faux "Nathan" into the PC mix for some reason. I still think it will be eventually revealed to be Henrik/Peter in a high-tech mask.
NO Henrik/Peter. NO..........
DeleteThanks for another great SS!
ReplyDeleteJason was never a favorite of mine until he returned from the dead. His is one character change that is welcome. No longer a "bot" but a living feeling human being. And SB does it so well. Like in his early years.
Danny was spot on. Standing up to that "*unt"...love your British sense!
This week will be sad. I hope we see lots of flashbacks and cast members partake in the memories.
With so many being added to the cast, both formerly dead and always alive, it might be a good time for some trimming of the not needed. We all know who they are.
First week of Autumn coming up! Enjoy.
Great week ---
ReplyDeleteI ain't even gonna comment on the little negative things...
the writers did it right.....and I think will continue to do it right
and next Sunday, I will go back to the negatvie/nik-picky LOL
cause I feel I am gonna be unhappy with the Erika storyline -----I LOVE her but not sure about her storyline
I'm sure Erika Slezak will be the long lost sister. She has similar features to Leslie C. Agreed. Like the actress and character Vikki on OLTL, but don't want anyone to challenge Monica's family
DeleteI will take your place and do a negative. I am nitpicking the fact that they refuse to mention when they rattle off the list of all of Monica‘s children. Dawn was a biological daughter and they just wipe her off the planet. As for the storyline with Erica, I’m gonna give my two cents. This is not a spoiler. I have no idea what’s going on, but I really feel since Erica will only be around for a couple months That Martin hired her to portray Monica’s sister so that Martin can get the inheritance and the mansion. But I think it’s going to be revealed to be a scam and that Erica is not really the sister and in the end everything will revert back to Tracy and the quartermaines
DeleteIm gonna agree with most of Dave's theory abt Erica's character but I'll put the blame on Drew rather than Martin though I think Martin started it, possibly inadvertently but possibly on purpose.
DeleteI've really enjoyed Jason and tracy since they each returned this last time. They've really matured and put family first.
Britt on the other hand has regressed but I think it's mostly defensive on her part.
Dave's theory is a good one but have to agree that it would be Drew behind it as he is always out for revenge and he is meaner than Martin. Plus, Martin has no funds to hire anyone to do anything.
DeleteI like the theory. Martin did find the letter in Drew’s house and Drew’s didn’t care so it could be either. Wonder how long Erika will be there. Surely it’s over by November sweeps
